Huddersfield Deal Nets Swans £20,000

The surprise sale of Ian Craney from Accrington to Huddersfield has netted the Swans a further £20,000

Craney made an 'undisclosed fee' move to the Galpharm stadium on Monday less than twelve months after returning to Accrington after an unsuccessful spell at Swansea.

Craney spent twelve months at the club after being signed by then manager Kenny Jackett but he always failed to make an impression and he returned from where he came in January after a three month loan spell.

His 23 appearances for the Swans with 0 goals were followed by 10 goals in 37 appearances on his return to Accrington and added to his 30 goals in 102 appearances from his first spell with the club.  And the returns persuaded Huddersfield to take him back into League One where he is likely to make his debut against MK Dons on Saturday.

Craney returned for £85,000 in January - £65,000 down on the £150,000 that Kenny Jackett paid for the midfielder but £20,000 of that loss has now been recouped thanks to the move to the Galpharm.

Speaking on completing the move on Monday, Craney told Huddersfield's official web site "I can't wait to get started and I'm a determined kind of player

"It's generally said that you peak at 26 so hopefully these will be the best three years of my career."

Craney added: "I know Robbo [midfielder Gary Roberts] well, he's my best friend in the game and a good friend out of it too.

"I'm glad that Gary is here as we had some great times playing together at Accrington Stanley, hopefully we can rekindle that.

"He basically sold the club to me as he loves it, so I'm hoping I can replicate the good start that he has made here."

Whilst Terriers boss Stan Ternant added "He gives us more competition for players and is a player I have been aware of since my Burnley days when he was at Accrington.

"Technically he is a very good player but he is an out-and-out winner, I'm delighted to have him on board."
