Welsh Football Should Be So Proud

Roberto Martinez believes that Welsh football should be so proud of the exploits of both Swansea and Cardiff this season

With just two weeks left of the season, both the Swans and Cardiff are in the Top 7 in the Championship and both have dreams of becoming the first club to represent Wales in the Premier League next season.

The Swans currently sit one point outside the play off zone with Cardiff looking certainties for that play off spot as the season reaches what promises to be a very exciting climax in South Wales.

The Swans can do their local rivals a favour next weekend with victory over Sheffield United but Roberto insists that it is all about getting the points for the Swans rather than doing their local rivals a favour

He said “We don’t want to help Cardiff or anyone else, we just want to help Swansea City

“It is quite clear that we will never give anything away. We want to fight for every point, whether there is something to achieve in the table or not.

“We will try to win every game and sometimes, of course, it is easier to win a game when you’ve got nothing to aim for.

“But the fact is that as a football club you don't do anything for others, that is quite clear.

“For everyone at this stage of the season the reality is you want to win as many games as you can for yourself and get as many points as you can.

“We are two Welsh clubs and I think the derbies this season have been a fantastic advert for Welsh football. We all should be proud of that,” he added.

“I think the more we can improve Welsh football the more rewards we will get, both at club level and in the national team.

“Of course, there is a great passion and rivalry between Swansea and Cardiff, but we are both representing Welsh football in the end.”
