Martinez We Are Back To Our Highest Standards

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez believes that the players are back to playing at their highest standards.

Solid performances against Cardiff, City Norwich City and Barnsley have pushed the Swans to the brink of a play-off spot and with teams around the Liberty Stadium outfit dropping points the season looks to be heading for a grandstand finish.

Looking back at those trio of games the laid back Catalan has attributed the break in the fixture list due to a host of world cup qualification matches as a catalyst for the up turn in the Swans form as he told Planet Swans, he said “I think its not just the result but the performances since Sheffield Wednesday. “

“We needed the break and the boys put a special effort against them, and then we came back and you are looking at the performance against Cardiff, Norwich and Barnsley they all have a similar pattern.”

“We are back to our highest standards and that's very very positive we obviously have another two games and we have enough points now to to reach the target of 74 points and that's a great achievement. “

Playing a brand of free flowing football that often has the sturdiest of football supporter holding one's breath does have its disadvantages and even the 35 year old admits that some teams that employ a more direct approach can deal with the ever congested fixture list that little bit better , he adds “ It was a much needed break we had to play 11 games in 36 days and some teams can deal with it a bit better because they play a more direct football and play the percentage game where you have to be in top condition to be effective.

“The way we are we need to be perfect we are a technical side and rely on our intensity and we needed that and the break shows the responsibility of the players.”

“They are ready for the rest of the campaign and that's a very good sign of a responsible squad and when you have got that at their age It allows you to work harder and get the results that the club deserves. “
