Jenkins Puts Contract Talks On Hold

Huw Jenkins says that all contract talks have been put on hold to allow for concentration on the promotion push

The Swansea City Chairman believes that all focus throughout the club have been shelved for now as the Swans try and push onto reach the Premier League.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Jenkins said "The last thing we need is anything getting on people's minds and distracting them from the job in hand between now and the end of the season

"There are a couple things to remember here. First of all, contract talks are never as straightforward as people make out.

"You have to try to find the middle ground and that's not easy.

"And secondly, with the club in the position we're in, we don't want anything at all affecting our focus and concentration.

"I am not just talking about the players, I mean everyone involved at the club.

"Contract talks can impact on a lot of people and we don't want that to happen when all our thoughts should be on the next game and on moving forward in the next few months.

"It has not always been easy for us to nail things down in the last few years because of the managerial changes we've gone through," he added.

"But in this day and age, I think players ending up out of contract is part and parcel of football.

"Because of the freedom of contract rules, players are allowed to speak to other clubs once they are in the final six months of their deal.

"In reality we know it actually goes on for a year or two before the contracts are up — everything has completely changed in football.

"All we can do as a club is concentrate on trying to run our club the best way we can.

"If people want to come here and enjoy their football, if they want to play for us and stay with us, then fantastic.

"But there are always going to be one or two who decide they might be better off elsewhere. That's just something that you have to accept."
