If Jonathan De Guzman is looking for a permanent move to the Liberty Stadium then his two goal outing against Norwich this afternoon will not do the chances of that any harm at all
De Guzman's first half brace took his tally for the season to seven of which five have come since Michael Laudrup left the club at the start of last month suggesting that he is one of the biggest individual beneficiaries from the change in management.
The Dutch midfielder is enjoying his second season on loan at the club and has now made 87 appearances for the club scoring a total of 15 goals - a more than adequate return for any goalscoring midfielder.
Replacing a midfielder that scores on a ratio better than one in six will never be an easy task and it was little wonder that Garry Monk was piling the praise on the player and hinting that he would very much like him to stay at the club next season.
Whether Monk is the manager that will make that decision we don't know but De Guzman's tally of goals speaks for itself and whilst there are moments when you watch him where you get massively frustrated there is little doubting his value to the team where he has consistently performed over the last two years.
"I would imagine he is a player who is at the top of our list - he is a very good player and he suits how we play," Monk said.
"Technically he is very good, he can play in several positions, and you always want players like that.
"He was my man-of-the-match today, his movements and desire to get the ball back in an unfamiliar role were excellent and he was rewarded with two goals.
"He enjoys it here. He has thrived here so he would be an important signing, but we have to speak to the player and see what he thinks."
It was felt last summer that De Guzman would follow Michael Laudrup and it was fully predicted that this would be his last season at the club as everyone believed that Laudrup would move on in the summer but given his massive upturn in form since the change in management maybe the Swans do have a chance of keeping one of their most influential players of the last two seasons.
