LFW Travel Guides - Leicester City

If you're heading to Leicester City for the first of two games during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend then here are the details of the travel disruption you can expect.

Capacity: 32,500 (all seated)

Address: Filbert Way , Leicester LE2 7FL

Main Telephone No: 0844 815 6000

Ticket Office: 0844 815 5000

By Car:

A relatively simple 100 mile trip up the M1 for Rangers fans. Leave at junction 21 and take the A5460 through to the middle of Leicester . Go under a railway bridge and then after 200 yards turn right at the traffic lights into Upperton Road and then right into Filbert Street following signs for the Royal Infirmary. Traffic is a consistent nightmare round the ground before and after the match so allow plenty of time.

Parking:

As well as the traffic problems, don't expect parking to be overly easy either. A number of residents parking schemes have been implemented since we were last here on he streets off the Narborough Road and Upperton Road on the approach which means you'l have to look further afield and face a longer walk.

The rugby club is still available for £3 a car, and there are car parks off Filbert Street, but roads remain closed up to 45 minutes after kick off to allow crowds to disperse so don't anticipate a quick getaway.

By Train

Usually pretty easy on East Midlands Trains from St Pancras but this being Easter, when nobody wants to travel of course, the railways are a total mess and you should prepare for a total ball ache if you're going this way.

The good news is there are still some £14 single tickets left, so you can go there and back for £28. The rest is bad news. You'll need to leave no later than 08.28 to make the kick off (that one arrives at 11.22 if all goes well, and only the St Pancras to Bedford stretch is done by train — the rest is on a bus which takes just over two hours to get to Leicester.

Coming back — at either 16.04 or 17.05 — you get a train to Kettering and then a bus from there to Bedford and a train the rest of the way.

So pretty cheap, but a total pain in the arse.

Coach

The official club coach leaves Loftus Road at 08.00 and picks up at the Target Roundabout at 08.30. The price is £28 for adults, £18 for seniors and young adults, and £16 for under 16 with the usual small discount for season ticket holders.

The LSA coach departs from the Springbok at 08.00 and is priced £30 with £20 concessions. Please call Gary to book on 07506 028 189.

Pubs:

Leicester is pretty poor for pubs it must be said. Most Rangers fans drink in the city centre, with plenty of the usual Wettherspoons, Walkabout type haunts within walking distance of the train station. Nearer the ground The Half Time Orange, The F Bar, The Local Hero and The Victory are all listed as strictly home fans only. The Leicester Gateway near the hospital and the Counting House near Morrisons come recommended by the guide, The Hind near the station may be the best bet if you are arriving by train.

The police have been very heavy handed with QPR fans on this trip before, so don't be surprise if you're herded this way or that and told where you can drink and when you have to go to the ground.

Tickets

QPR have been allocated just over 2,000 tickets priced £28 adults, £25 seniors and under 22s, £18 under 18s, £9 under 12s and £7 for under 8s. There are six pairs of wheelchair and ambulant disabled tickets priced the same, and six disabled parking spaces to be reserved in advance, at a cost of £5, by calling 0844 815 5000.
