And Rightfully So

Garry Monk revealed after yesterday's game that Wilfried Bony was distraught after his sending off and it i difficult to say that he shouldn't be after two crazy challenges meant that the striker saw red in the first half of the defeat against Southampton.

The sending off completely changed the pattern of the game and I would argue long and hard that it also changed the outcome as it came at a time when the Swans were on top in the game and looking the most likely to open the scoring as they started to apply more pressure on Southampton.

Bony left the referee with little choice but to produce the second yellow card after his scissors challenge having lost the ball and replays also confirmed that his first challenge was a deserved yellow as well with him making little (no) attempt to play the ball at the time.

Monk says that Bony will learn from his mistakes and that is good news for Swans fans as we look towards our record signing to open his goal account this season with his game time so far yielding no goals for the man who scored over twenty in his debut season last time around.

"I did not see the first one properly. I knew it was a foul, but I wasn’t sure if it was a yellow, but the second booking was right, yes,” said Monk.

"When you are on a yellow card and you make that scissor motion from behind like that you do run the risk of getting a second yellow.

"You could say people should keep their head about any sending off of course, but I don’t need to tell Wilfried that. He was distraught in the changing room with himself. He’s a good character and a good personality and you do make mistakes at times. I’ve done it myself. Every player has made mistakes like that hopefully he will learn from it and bounce back. He’s held his hands up about it, been very honest, it’s not a problem for us and we will move on.”
