Saints are about to enter into the last quarter of the season and although results elsewhere in the last week havent exactly gone for us, we are still in with a shout.
There are many who said back in the Autumn as Saints competed at the top end of the table that it would never last and that we would soon dropdown the table, well here we are well into March and we are still in 7th place and more importantly still within four points of a top four place and Champions league qualification, indeed with 5th or 6th place getting us into the Europa league we are within two points of that.
Now is the time for Saints to rediscover their form and verve and they can go into these final ten games with a full squad for the first time in around four months and start to put their foot on the gas.
Saints destiny is very much in their own hands and although we have wasted an opportunity with recent results we now have some very winnable games coming up after we have got this weekends trip to Chelsea out of the way.
In many respects we still have a far easier run in than our rivals. Manchester United may be four points ahead, but they have Spurs at Old Trafford this coming weekend followed by a trip to Liverpool & two games later host Manchester City followed by Chelsea away and then Everton at Goodison Park, in the penultimate game they host Arsenal and finish up away to a Hull side who may have much to play for on the final day.
So United have six very difficult game in their final ten and these are all games that if they don't drop points then our rivals will.
Its going to be a tough ten games, but we have a great chance to finish at least in the top six, perhaps higher.
Our first job though is to keep the gap between us and 8th intact, it stands at 7 points and every game that goes by that we keep that intact or widen it makes it that much tougher for the likes of Stoke, Swansea and West Ham to make up ground.
Chelsea on Sunday will be tough, but it is in many respects a "free hit" we are not expected to get much out of it, so if we do it will be a bonus.
Recent results have lead some fans to panic a little, but the reality is we are in a great position and we can really push forward.
