Blackpool report QPR to FA over Gorkss transfer

Blackpool have submitted a formal complaint to the Football Association for making an illegal approach to their defender Kaspars Gorkss.

Rangers have made no secret of their desire to sign the giant Latvian this summer, but they aren’t alone in that with Norwich, Watford, Preston, Ipswich and others all admitting with varying degrees of openness that they’d like him in their squad next season.

On Friday last week, June 12, QPR announced on the official website that they had made an offer for the Latvian but Blackpool have announced today that they reported the R’s for an illegal approach the day before – June 11. Gorkss is widely said to have already had a medical at Loftus Road, and has a £250k release clause in his one year contract, but QPR’s chase of Pool’s reigning Player of the Year looks set to drag on a lot longer than many expected, or hoped.

Blackpool manager Simon Grayson told the BBC: “I don't want to say too much about it, but we've got to protect the interests of our club and we're led to believe there's been an illegal approach. If anybody approaches our club and offers money then that's our decision to give permission to talk to players. But the matter is now in the FA's hands. We like to do our football business in the right way and we feel this hasn't been done.

“It was disappointing while I was away to read that Kaspars has already signed for Queens Park Rangers. I'd been fully kept up to date that we'd had no official approach. Everyone does different types of business but it doesn't seem like the correct procedure."

Last week Iain Dowie said of Gorkss: “He’s one we’d like to bring here. I really like the look of him as a player and if it happens then great. Ideally I’d like to have the squad in place for the first day of pre-season training.”

To sour relations still further between the clubs QPR are rumoured to be trying to tie up a deal for Gorkss’ team mate Wes Hoolahan.

The R’s face their friends from the seaside for the first time next season at Loftus Road on Tuesday September 30.

Meanwhile QPR, with or without Gorkss, will be traveling north of the border to face Falkirk on Saturday July 26 in a pre season friendly. The SPL outfit join Northampton, Stevenage, Windsor and Eton, Chievo and Hayes and Yeading in the R’s summer line up.
