Ronald Koemn has confirmed that Ryan Bertrand will be in the squad for the trip to MK Dons on Wednesday evening.
After completing 45 minutes for the Saints U21 side against Reading on Monday night, Ronald Koeman has confirmed that the left back will be straight into the Saints squad for the trip to MK Dons.
"He’s been out for a long time and it’s also difficult because he was out from May and that means no pre-season and a pre-season for a player is a very important part of the season,” Koeman told youtube.com/southamptonfc.
"We know that but little by little he will come back as he gets his time to play. That was good that he got 45 minutes on Monday and he will be part of the squad this Wednesday.”
It is doubtful whether Bertrand will start, however if Saints can get a grip on the game and win it comfortably I would Imagine that Koeman would be keen to give Bertrand the last 15 minutes or so to get him used to the pace of playing again.
If he can do that then he will have to consider where Bertrand's fitness lies ahead of the visit of Swansea City on Saturday, again I would imagine that the Saints boss will be looking to bring the player in gradually with the main focus perhaps on having him ready both physically and mentally for the trip to Chelsea.
