Stroud referees Charlton match

Premiership referee Keith Stroud is the man in the middle at Loftus Road tonight as QPR face Charlton Athletic.

Queens Park Rangers v Charlton Athletic
Referee: Keith Stroud (Hampshire)

Assistants – Child (Kent) and Bull (Essex)
Fourth Official – Hegley (Hertfordshire)

Respect
• noun -
a feeling of admiration for someone because of their qualities or achievements.

There was another one of those decisions on Monday night where you wonder just what on earth the officials are doing – Barnsley scored perhaps the most offside goal ever seen to take a 2-0 lead over Burnley but referee Nigel Miller was so bothered about getting the Burnley players away from the linesman he didn’t actually remember to go and have a discussion about what had happened. Once again, arrogance of the highest order. Mr Attwell rewarded his bosses for their blind faith with another mistake – Hull’s equaliser at Portsmouth on Saturday came from a corner that was actually a goal kick. Not a good start to a week that will end with QPR meeting again with Rob Styles.

On Tuesday night at Loftus Road we have Keith Stroud in charge for our game with Charlton. Stroud has been a regular at QPR during the past few seasons and is a steady, middle of the road official who doesn’t make many mistakes – famous last words. Stroud has recently been elevated to the Premiership list and has already refereed three top flight games this season showing seven yellows and no reds in the process. Overall this year he has done 12 games, five in the Championship, and shown 38 yellows (3.166 a match) and three reds. His last game was a 2-2 draw between Bristol Rovers and Swindon on Saturday – five bookings and one sending off in that one.

Last season he showed 117 yellows (3.25 a game) and seven reds in 36 matches. That included three yellow cards on the opening day at Ashton Gate as Rangers scrapped out a point against the newly promoted Robins. His rating of six out of ten at Bristol City saw Stroud finish joint fourteenth on the referee league.

Referee: Kevin Stroud (Hampshire) 6 A little over fussy at times but did try to let the game flow and keep the cards in his pocket – there’s a time and a place though and after booking two players for dissent it seemed a little daft to allow Fontaine off with a brutal clean out on Blackstock, especially as he then went onto book Stewart for something similar. Should have awarded QPR a penalty in the first half. LFW Bristol City Match Report

He refereed Charlton twice in the second half of last season – a 3-2 defeat at home to Wolves where six yellows were shown and a 0-0 draw at Sheff Wed when three were booked. In 2006/07 he showed 96 yellows (2.666 a game) and three reds in 36 matches. That included QPR’s memorable 1-0 home victory against Preston after Christmas and the forgettable 1-1 draw with Leicester in the Autumn – a game where Rangers got a penalty and Gareth McAuley was sent off for Leicester. An average rating of 5.5 from those two games good enough for only joint fourteenth position on the referee league for that season.

Ref: K Stroud (Dorset) 6 Did well to spot the handball for the penalty and sending off decision. Made some poor decisions as well though; needlessly blowing up when there hadn't been a foul and then ignoring blatant fouls. He was very picky at times and clearly didn't have a clue with one throw-on decision in front of South Africa Road - he quickly changed his mind when everyone jumped up screaming at him! LFW Leicester Match Report

Referee: K P Stroud 5 He's a referee I like but it's hard to give him a higher mark than five because he missed the most blatant handball penalty you're ever likely to see, booked Lomas for dissent and yet allowed Alexander to moan on and on and on and on and on at him all night, and allowed a forearm smash on Lomas to go without a card. Inconsistent. LFW Preston Match Report

In 2005/06 he showed 139 yellows (3.564 a game) and nine reds in 39 matches, although his average was boosted significantly by a ten yellow card haul at Leicester v Sheff Utd that season. He refereed amatches at Loftus Road against Burnley (1-1) and Ipswich (2-1) that season and an average rating of six from those two games was good enough for joint twelfth in the referee league. Referee - K Stroud – 5 A generous 5 at that as well. The game was a pulsating affair that had both sets of fans on tenterhooks, but Mr Stroud was a constant thorn in the side of both sets of players and fans alike. LFW Ipswich Match Report

Ref: K Stroud (Hampshire) 7 A fairly decent game from the ref today, in fact it wasn't a dirty affair at all really. Have we turned over a new leaf this year? I doubt it! He took a bit too long to get to grips with Sinclair and McGreal but nobody's perfect - not a bad display really. LFW Burnley Match Report

Elsewhere it’s always interesting to see which Premiership officials have been bumped down the league – Chris Foy has Northampton v Leeds tomorrow while Martin Atkinson has Accrington v Bury, although the geography and potential for trouble may have motivated those appointments more than anything either referee has actually done wrong recently. Looking further ahead, and I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you, it’s Rob Styles in charge of our game at Palace on Saturday. Will have a full dossier proving just what an odious, incompetent, smug faced tosser he is on Thursday.
