Eintracht Frankfurt Defender On Saints Radar

Saints are expected to improve their squad this summer, with the centre of defence seemingly a position they are keen to improve.

A deal for defender Mohamed Salisu has been close to completion for several weeks, but reports suggest he may not be the only centre back to arrive.

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger is a target for Southampton, with a €25m offer ‘in the room’.

A report in England recently linked Hinteregger with a move to the South Coast, and that has now been covered in Germany.

Eintracht Frankfurt want to improve their squad and to do so they need to sell and are looking at their options in all such departments and whom they could sell to raise funds to buy.

Hinteregger is one such player who could provide funds to but two players and, according to the a German newspaper, is ‘not only associated’ with Southampton and coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, but also ‘coveted’ by the Saints, and a ‘whopping’ €25m bid is ‘actually in the room’.

The Austrian Central defender at 27 and with 124 Bundesliga appearances to his name as well as a similar number in his native Austria has the experience necessary to partner the likes of the incoming Mohammed Salisu as well as Jan Bednarek and althouh this might limit the playing time of Jack Stephens in a back four could also offer Ralph Hasenhuttl the opportunity to play three at the back in some games.

Hinteregger does not have appeared to have played under Hasenhuttl atany time during his career but will have faced his teams on the pitch during his time in both Austria and Germany, but is this rumour one of any substance or just the German media putting two Austrians together and making 5.
