Cyle Larin has deservedly won the Championship player of the month award for his contribution in August and he has got off to a flyer, but there might yet be another award coming his way.
The Canadian striker started where he left off last season in August, firstly scoring at Colchester in the League cup and then scoring in the 3 League games Southampton played in August, notching in the defeat at Watford, then in the victory against Stoke City and a brace in the 5-1 win over Millwall.
Now as BBC Sport report he has been rewarded by being named the Championship's player of the month for August.
But there could yet be another trophy on his mantlepiece, The Daily Echo has revealed that he has been nominated for the Championship Goal of the Month award for August for his goal against Millwall where he flicked the ball over the defenders head and then clinically volleyed it home after the ball dropped.
But he is not favourite to win, former Saint Dom Ballard has that honour for his speculative effort at Birmingham City. Watford's Amin Nabizada and Blackburn's Ryoya Morishita are the other two candidates.
I may be a little biased here and I haven't seen Nabizada or Morishita's efforts but I think that Larin should get it.
His goal was a genuine bit of skill, he knew what he was doing, he showed great awareness to flick it deftly up and knew exactly where it was going to land and where he was going to place it.
Dom Ballard's effort was speculative, yes it looked superb, a scorpionesque opportunist goal where he threw up a foot with the ball behind him and luckily for him the ball went into the net.
But probably 999 times out of 1,000 it would have gone somewhere else, in truth he wasn't really trying to score, but trying to stop keep the ball in the mixer, rather than see it fly out for a throw in.
I applaud it as a spectacular effort, but is was also speculative, whereas Larin's was clinical.
