Keane: Fülöp Saga Almost at an End

Boss Roy Keane says the Blues are getting nearer to completing the signing of Sunderland keeper Márton Fülöp. Town are believed to have agreed a £750,000 fee with the Black Cats with negotiations regarding the player’s contract and settling his current Sunderland terms having continued throughout last week.

Keane says the discussions, which have been held with the Wearsiders by chief executive Simon Clegg and owner Marcus Evans, are close to a conclusion: "I’m led to believe we’re getting nearer, but it has been a drawn out saga. We want to try and get Márton in because of the competition that we want to create for the goalkeepers.

”It’s no secret that we had a problem with goalkeepers last year in terms of injuries and loans and I’d like to start next weekend with three goalkeepers.

"We’ve got good goalkeepers anyway, but you have to cover yourself. You look at the position we’re in now with certain positions at the club and we are a bit short.”

Keane has previously said he will be looking for a striker with Cardiff's Michael Chopra his main target, and a central midfielder with Owen Garvan set to complete his move to Crystal Palace this morning.
