Players not playing after their missus has had a kid 22:27 - Mar 6 with 12547 viewsWatford_Ranger

Am I insensitive in thinking it's ridiculous that Hoilett wasn't available on Saturday after his wife had dropped a kid out a day before? This seems to have become a given in football when I'm sure it wasn't in the recent past.

The bloke is presumably trying to win a new contract. Maybe I'm just old fashioned about this but if the kid was born that day or due at any moment I could understand it.

Having a baby really takes it out of you.

Don't have an issue with it myself. Would have understood if he wanted to play, understand why he might not. As moments in your life go, this is pretty high up.

The birth is and I assume he was there. A quick lift up to MK, the game and a lift back would have seen him miss about six hours of women cooing over a sleeping baby.

Personally I was just grateful to his wife. As it is, its at least another 9 months before we get another break like that. Next time we need to make the most of it.

Does anyone know if the new arrival is Junior Junior Hoilett or Junior Hoilett Junior?

Sure. like I said, I'm not that fussed either way, and I don't know the circumstances, had he not slept in x hours, were there complications etc etc.

Either way, even if all was fine and he was all good, as things professional footballers do I'm ok with this.

Maybe if Junior had pulled out nine months ago there wouldn't have been an issue with him pulling out on Saturday!

Before everybody used to wish Hoilett wasn't around, and now everybody wishes he was around. It's all so complicated.

If we were top 6 or bottom 3 then yes I would be saying your in the team but the season is all but dead we need what 6/7 points from 33 to kill of the season so it's not a real biggy in my books

So is he trying to get a new contract or not?

Fans keep saying he's only putting in performances because he's contracts up, now we're saying he's not that bothered because he's chosen to miss a game to spend time with his family the day after his child's born. What exactly can he do that's not going to result in him being slated for it?

If I was a Dad I would like to spend my first day with my son/daughter rather than go to work. Also could have had the kid at like 4am, so obviously not mentally fit. I'm pretty sure Hoilett is not bad enough to use his own kid to get a new contract

I haven't got a problem with it. Its important he's there. We cant be criticizing footballers for spending time in night clubs and casinos and acting irresponsibly then criticise when a player acts responsibly as a family man.

David the third presumably. Which using cockney rhyming slang and qpr fan rhyming slang for his two names, would make him Turd Toilet.

He may be trying to get a new contract, but he isn't going to get one on anything remotely close to what his Dad will like (unless he's already had a lot of recent, discreet 'no thank yous' from other clubs). And as LowerLoftLad said, it was hardly a critical game, and furthermore, he isn't exactly a 'must-have' player.

If you don't take it as setting some unbreakable precedent, the issue fizzles away to nothing.

Have we come a long long way baby in 27 years?

When Trev said no to Mad Dog (courtesy of QPR Report 2009)

BLAST FROM THE PAST - MARTIN ALLEN

The most talked about episode from Martin Allen's career at Queens Park Rangers was not a match he played in … but one that he missed!
It was 20 years ago this month - on March 11th 1989. Rangers travelled north for a First Division fixture at Newcastle United and our squad stayed in a hotel overnight before the game.
Allen said: "I was sharing a room with our goalkeeper David Seaman. At two o'clock in the morning, David took a phone call from my dad saying that my wife Gabriella was about to give birth.

"I found out there was a flight back to London at 7.30am and I told our Assistant Manager Peter Shreeves. He said 'Before you leave, check that she's still in labour. And if you are going to go, then get on the plane and good luck. But check first.'
"I rang from the hotel at 6.00am and Gabriella was settling in at the Royal Berks Hospital. So I got the plane from Newcastle Airport and arrived at Heathrow about 8.30am. From there, I was in the hospital at 9.30am and our baby George was born at 12.15pm.

"I'll never forget the following Monday. I was just leaving for home after training when QPR Manager Trevor Francis handed me an envelope while I was getting in my car. I thought it was going to be a note of congratulations for having the baby. But it was a two week wages fine!
"It was quite shocking and disappointing. After that, my working relationship with Trevor broke down. I was eventually sold to West Ham a few months later.
"But I have no regrets about what happened. It was only human that I wanted to see the birth of my first child. Everyone has the right if they wish to do that - whether you are a footballer or whether you are a banker or a politician. It doesn't matter what you work as. You have that right.

"I still get phone calls from newspapers about the incident - even now. My name always crops up when any top sportsman chooses to attend the birth of a child. Or even when they opt to stay and perform in their chosen sport when the wife is in labour.
"My famous - or infamous - son George is now 20 years-old. As I am talking to you on the phone for this interview, I am just driving him down to Bristol University where he is studying Maths & Philosophy. George is doing very well and enjoying his own life now."

To any fan whining about Hoilett missing the game.

Would you go to work the day after your wife dropped a kid?

If no, then it is fair enough that Hoilett didn't. What's the consequence of it? He missed a football match.

On a list of shit that matters, football is right down the bottom. And on the list of football shit that matters, a midtable QPR shitfest matters even less.

And that's coming from someone who thinks babies are marginally less important than, say, The Oscars or the output of the band 'Toploader'.

Who cares, I couldn't give a rats about him & his home life , give him the rest of the season off as well if you like

the sooner Hoilett is gone from the club the better , has played about 5 good games in nearly 4 years whilst picking up 60 large a week , he has been mugging us all off , the fat Canadian pr1ck

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

By rights he would be entitled to Paternity leave would he not?

I took my 1 week full pay immediately. The day job didn't even enter the equation.

Most new dads get 2 weeks off so having a day off doesn't seem excessive at all

To be fair, if he hadn't stayed with his wife and newly arrived pup and had been made or expected to play, then he/we/football would have been vilified.

Frankly and, regardless of his ineffectiveness over the last four years, I don't think we should have any issues over him spending time with the family at this special time in their lives, as we didn't when Rio was absent to spend time with his family as his wife was dying.

Seriously, a nondescript game of football or spending the first day with your family and some are having a go at him. As others have said, what if there were complications or the pup arrived in the early hours.

All this being said, I have no qualms about making the baby's father unemployed on 1 July!
