Right my ten peneth worth… Not worth anything but I thought I‘d get it off my chest.
I voted to Leave and now regret it… Nothing to do with economics as I think we’ll be alright overall, (If we can quickly set up deals with other counties outside the EU). The EU is flawed in many ways, most notably its economic model is wrong, TTIP (or whatever it is now) is a terrible idea and the EU has a complete basket case of a parliament.
But if there was another referendum tomorrow I would vote to stay. This is because the vast majority of young people passionately want to stay in. They argue that we should be helping countries like Greece and Italy whilst we can afford it. There might be a time when the shoe is on the other foot and they could help us. I cant really argue with that and at the end of the day they are the ones who will be running the country in 20 years or so.
Also I’m really upset with the rise in racially aggravated incidents. This has the result of alienating hard working immigrants (many of whom wish to settle here). I have a work colleague from Italy who is now learning German (with his wife) because they want to emigrate to Munich. Gutting as he is top bloke and good worker.
I don’t like the way the EU is structured and it is total inflexibility on just about everything, but in hindsight I agree with those who say we should be in it, trying to influence change and reform.

Except they won't be running the country will they? That'll be the same people that have been running it for the last couple of hundred years. The Eaton old school tie establishment, they will never let it go. It's the reason why vast waves of people have turned to UKIP, they've just simply had enough of the same over privileged bastards not listening to them.

The referendum was their one and only opportunity to actually have a vote that could have an impact.

But that's rubbish. To claim UKIP are some sort of anti-elite is rubbish.

I grew up on a dump of a West Norwood housing estate and was schooled in a heap in South Norwood.

All the while about a mile away Farage was honing his Hitler admiration and getting a princes education at Dulwich.

Anti-elite? Yeah right.

Christ almighty.. i only just logged on to the board after a few days off caring for my old dad east ham dave , and we have yet another free for all gonzo bendover gangbang on UKIP, Farage , brexit , trump, the mail , the express and the right. Get out there and engage with people from beyond the sphere and parameters of their social circle and like minded associates , and ask them why they feel they way they do.

This petri dish sneering from beyond the heavenly firmament at us is as flaccid and Impotent as John Bercow's Perma limp member dangling lifeless and limp, as Sally Bercow seeks to sate her holistic aural pleasures and thus being perched on the end of sundry cock in the eponymous Avenues and Alleyways of south London Yardie crack houses and the semi static flat roof homes of do as you likey bare knuckle pugilists.

give it a fkn day or two off for christ sake. Holloways Back.

Well fair to say I've been out there - I moved from Islington where nobody I knew voted Tory to a village outside Stockport in Cheshire where I've met people in the pub, Sunday League football openly talk about voting UKIP.

Locally there is virtually no immigration, round where I live rarely see a non white face - as an example in the whole of Cheshire there is not a single black police officer.

I live in a relatively affluent area with above average state schools, low unemployment. It's quite nice, lots of hills, open spaces, generally friendly people, you get the picture.

They are not voting UKIP because of how immigration has affected their lives, but more because they absolutely hate Muslims. I've had all sorts talk to me about "the Muslim problem", it can be relentless and on more than one occasion people have assumed I moved away from London because there are so many down there.

Now I don't know thousands of people, so might not be representative, but it's massively different from where I've Lived in London - Bush/Chiswick/Borough/Camden.

Incidentally I'd say probably none of the people I'm talking about would consider themselves racist.

Good post, Toby.

It's been pointed about before, but it is true that there is a direct correlation between a higher volume of voters for UKIP (by borough) and lower volumes of ethnic ninorities. Those areas with the biggest volume of UKIP supporters have almost zero migration. Note we're not talking percentages here. It's clearly a racially motivated "fear" thing.

That doesn't dismiss Disco's point, I should add. He makes some good points too, but it does give another perspective that should not be lost.

if you assume that people usually vote with self interest then the people of Thame make more sense. Immigration doesn't affect them negatively. No pressure on services etc so they are not fussed with it.

Ironically in Camden, Corbyn Central, the local Health services we're farcical, the girl at the desk reckoned that was down to having so many people come in without English as a second language that they just couldn't cope. You had to pretty much book an appointment for two weeks time, by which time most people had got better or gone elsewhere so routinely appointments were missed so you had to turn up and hang around hopefully till someone called you in.

As a loyal Labour supporter I'd point to the Tory cuts in supporting areas with significant immigration, but it's an argument that goes round in circles. Anyway despite the shambles the area as a whole remains happily left leaning.

Up here the way people talk you'd think before they went to sleep they first look under their bed in case the Muslim Monster is hiding there.

Maybe it's just me being a leftie at heart and blaming everything on the mail, but.....

It seems to me that a combination of right wing media, Britain First social media and of course the terrorism that has happened mean people feel like they might well be be-headed, blown up, live under Sharia law literally any day now.

Breed fear, create anger, breed fear, create anger and on and on.

We all know why Cameron wanted a referendum but there were a lot of MPs from other parties that voted for it. If they believed then what leaving the EU meant why gamble on the result. It seems while thinking it would be in the nations best interest to stay in the EU they were prepared to gamble on the result to protect their own position as MPs.

I moved ten years ago to a small north west town of approx 50k-60k. It's now up to 90k. It was a staunch Labour town, now it has a Tory MP on his second stint and UKIP in second place.

Governments can't keep dumping 330,000 migrants per annum onto these small north of London towns and expect the elecorate not to react via the ballot box.

There will always be exceptions and nice anecdotal evidence of where immigrants have swamped a town, taken jobs off locals and that town has voted heavily to leave or to vote UKIP. Boston springs to mind. But the facts after the last election are that the UKIP support was densest (not in the intelligence stakes, I should add!) in areas of the country with the fewest immigrants....which does back ingeminate's point that their thoughts are dominated by "fear" of the foreigner rather than being on the negative receiving end of any impact.

Of course, if they do start to be on the receiving end of any negative impact of such foreign workers, then this will simply exacerbate their fears and probably will further impact people's behaviour at the ballot box.

It's the oldest political trick in the book. Divide and rule. The political powers that be, have done it for years, with the aid of the most right-wing press in the whole of Europe, the have-nots are encouraged to fight among themselves, whilst the real elite control the wealth of the country. It really isn't difficult to see if you have your eyes open, complain about the threat of immigrants if you like, but the constant policies of austerity that have made the poorest pay the price for the banking crisis take their toll on the vast majority of the public. The people who run UKIP , with their millionaire backers, will not be looking after anyone other than themselves.

I'm assuming this was for me Pastie.

Firstly I agree with you about people getting involved and wanting to do something that they feel will improve their community/society.

Although I had plenty to say to the campaigner I made it quite clear that I very much respected his getting out on the streets and doing something and I was sure that we both shared a lot of values and concerns on many subjects.

Given your understanding of TTIP and CETA I think you would have been a far better campaigner to have spoken to people door-to-door who may have been opposing the Liberal candidate on brexit given that Sarah's campaign is pretty much based on that issue. My favourite leaflet being the one that was in purple UKIP colours with a picture of Nigel Farage asking guess who he is supporting in the by-election? Zac Goldsmith was the revealed answer upon opening!

Your quote from Norman Lamb is exactly what I have been putting on here in a few threads recently about the farcical nature of Tory cabinet members who pretend to be pro brexit but are in fact, as Mr lamb eloquently points out, quickly and quietly pushing through the most centralist of EU agendas.

So how do you marry your TTIP/CETA understanding with the rabid Remain aspect of the Lib Dem campaign?

Hunter, thanks for your reply, I haven't got time to get back to you until later this evening but I definitely will.

Sorry yes, I'm probably not as ardent as you in your opposition to TTIP & CETA.
But the way i marry my views on TTIP & the remain aspect of Lib Dem campaign is that I count myself as a realist and have to make do with the best option.

There so many aspects of the EU that I don't like, I wrote to Juncker a while ago, still waiting for a reply.
But I guess Hunterhoop put it best, that we have to make some compromise, and I believe that we will have better rights in the EU, than the alternative of a right wing Tory party, who will no doubt put through similar deals to TTIP & CETA anyway.

The Main thing is we seem as a LFW collective, to be making good Progress here on this thread. Why bother?.

If i knock up a risque Vignette on Calais Migrants , Immigration into the east end ,UKIP far right missing links who live in Basildon and who enjoy giving the mrs a flush righthander in their string vests, and labour voting ever so humble-dog bowl-leftover-supplicant-concubine-Apron string cucks , will it get this thread deleted ? and if so , we can then save the Mail, Ukip, Farage, Trump , Brexit , left wing , right wing LFW camp wars until the new year when were all really fcked off in january , off the booze ,fuking skint and lamenting another 3rd fa cup exit to Blyth spartans.

A nice anecdote??!!?

I fckn give up. There's no explaining reality to some people, you have to live it to know it. I'd be excercising my legal right at the ballot box to add emphasis to my leave the EU vote, were I not fck gonna be fckn dead by 2020!

Can you have a proxy vote from beyond the grave???

Picking a plot at the cemetary...

"we have two plots left sir, which would you like?"

"The one on the right!!"
