all relative, it was more than anyone else in the league was spending back then, He did spend it very well though
We'd certainly stacked up a huge wage bill before he arrived, and we added Routledge, Miller, Hulse, Smith, Shittu etc late in both transfer windows at considerable cost, but don't forget Cardiff were busy signing Bellamy on 40 big ones a week to go with an already handsome squad back then.

We cant compare our promotion campaign in 10/11 to Villas . Yes we spent money but we also had a "4 year plan" having spent years in the championship and L1. I think we were entitled to spend a bit for that final push. We didnt even sign high profile players but bought shrewdly, signing experienced championship players. Our 2nd promotion however was ...

I can't see that Villa are anything particularly special - it looks wide open with lots of potential improvers, including Villa. With there maybe being nobody outstanding, the local derbies might damage Villa for instance. They're in a broad geographical group up there which includes Brum, Wolves, Derby and Forest. There's a few narky games amongst that lot. Same goes for the Yorkshire area mob - Leeds, Sheffs Wed and Utd, Barnsley, Hull and i suppose that Boro are almost on the fringes of that lot, which might not help them. Last season Newcastle and Brighton were outside of this sort of local nonsense and maybe it helped them a bit. Nobody really hates Reading much either, so they could trundle along their merry way pretty much without local hassle. So Huddersfield did really well to go up if you look at it simply from that persepective.
If that's going to be a factor this season then Reading will go well again and Norwich might get amongst it. But Villa i think will attract too much attention for their own good - too many narky old games, too much heat. They're not looking good enough to rise above it all.

And Wolves - It'll add a bit of interest to the season!
I'm getting increasingly worried about your taste in music, Mick.
On topic, I think AV will be top 6 - unfortunately. Their most important player is Kodja, not Terry. A mate of mine who is an avid Villa fan reckons their midfield is bang average. I'd like us to beat them at least once this season, having been to both 1-0 defeats last time.

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.
I have a recurring nightmare where we play Villa, featuring their centreback pairing with the turning circle of a large glacier, and hit long balls up to Conor Washington for 90 minutes
