Looking at a move according to West London Sport (not Get West London...big difference in reliability there). worked with Holloway before at Blackpool. Better than what we have or just a cheap and experienced option to have in the squad?

I've always thought he was bloody crap so hopefully nothing in it/I'm wrong.

Preston were fairly solid last year, not sure how much he played or if he was a part of that. I think our first choice back 3 is good enough and just need options that will not upset the dressing room but capable of coming in and doing a job when needed.

The 2nd one - absolutely not better than we have but gives us numbers in an area we're weak. Loan at CB is def best option IMO, especially as on/two of Lynch, Perch, Phillips or Caulker will have to miss out on a spot even on the bench when all our 1st choice CB's are fit.

I feel a Perch style hate fest coming on if he joins. Very similar type of player but who knows... We will need back up if Caulker leaves.

Never knowingly right.

I concur with this.
He's always seemed like an absolute non-league clogger.
Dreadful player.
And I know we're trying to 'cut our cloth accordingly' these days; but where's our pride? We have been amongst the top 20 clubs in the country three seasons out of the last six.

He's one of those players that always looks crap when you play against him but seems well rated everwhere he goes, similar to Clint Hill and similar reaction on here to when we signed him. Played a lot for a very good Preston side last season and on a loan deal or a free transfer would be a decent addition to the defence

I Baptiste you in the name of Ollie.....

A typical Ollie signing along the lines of Brett Angell and other old warhorses who come in happy to be bit part, not upset the dressing room etc, etc

That's all assuming he DOES sign.

It will not fill anyone with warm positivity but I'll only be concerned if he comes straight in as a starter

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

could be wrong but I think Preston fans loved him last season. Not sure about his injury record though

Hopefully not a Matt Hill type. Never really known much about him apart from him having been around since John the Baptiste.

Could be a god back up but would prefer to see Darnell given a chance.

Also if he's going to put pressure onto Lynchie not making too many rickets then so beit

captains fantastic

There's a few new-builds going up not far away in Cam where I live. Bit quieter than Quedgeley (at the moment) if that's your thing & commutable to Gloucester, Cheltenham & North Bristol.

It's done.

Positives:
- Ollie knows him and being so adamant about players having the right character, we can be confident he knows Baptiste will be a positive influence
- He plays in positions we need some strength in depth with
- He's free and will not be on much money
- This is similar to Clint Hill style unfashionable transfers for players we assume are crap and past it but known by the the manager and low risk.

Negatives:
- He's been absolutely dog toffee whenever I have seen him

Regarding Alex Baptisite, I'm going to do a really original thing.

I'm going to get behind him and the team and actually see how he plays for us, rather than what has gone before.

A rudimentary 'Baptiste PNE' search on Twitter reveals that he's held in pretty high regard by their fans. Could be a smart signing.

Why is it an odd one?

We needed to improve the defence and this is someone who can play in a back three, has done well at this level for several years and is on a free transfer.
