Woodwork 09:43 - Sep 17 with 1648 viewsenfieldargh

Do we seem to be hitting the woodwork a lot more than normal?

When we do hit it it always seems to rebound in the wrong direction

Every time someone says "hit the woodwork" my old man says "missed!".

"unlucky"
"missed"

"saved penalty"
"missed"

We should sign up this Woodwork on a short term loan to cover injuries. He definitely has the knack for being in the right place at the fright time.

We are actually attacking occasionally and shooting towards the goal. Ergo, more woodwork-striking.

If a player hits the woodwork does this count as a shot on target ?

It's something Washington has a knack for.

No

The target is within the posts and crossbar

Not sure, sounds like Woodwork may need some counselling for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Well, he's probably in the frame.

Before the Premier League every training session finished with a few rounds when hitting the bars.

And yet, by the same token, a feeble shot straight at the goalie counts as a shot on target and therefore rated in "stats" as better than a thirty yard volley that cannons off the bar.
Similarly a few tip-tapped passes between defenders adds to the "completed passes" tally much beloved of the MOTD team.

When I first started watching football there were many more rebounds into play in the Scottish game than in England. This was because in Scotland the posts and bar were square, and in England they were rounded at the front. Square posts were outlawed in 1987, allowing many more shots to go in off the post or bar. Or to go out for for a goal kick, rather than staying in play, of course. Professional "woodwork" is now actually aluminium alloy.

No, because Brian McCarthy's old man does the stats!

So if you hit the post/crossbar and it goes in, does that mean we score without a shot on target?
