Apparently the "hotline" to the Universal Credit people charges 55p per minute. The Secretary of State responsible seemed surprised that people found that outrageous and will instal free calls "within the month". These people live on another planet.

This fella referred a game in Orkney, 2nd division mid table, he's obviously ready for Champions league.
He was up on political business and obviously did it for a bit of publicity, whoever thinks reffing a game of football wins votes must be of a similar mind to those that think 55p per min for phone calls is acceptable!

And what would have been the point of him being in the House when the Tories had a three line whip to abstain?

I've never heard of any party taking this action before. A whip to vote for or aganst a motion is commonplace, but to abstain? Were they that frightened of the number of ther MP's that would have been in support?

He can't just ring up UEFA and ask to do a game!

He will have been appointed & probably long before the time of that vote was decided.
