At the risk of simply not understanding the modern game I'd quite like to see:

-------------------------------Smithers-------------------------------
Furlong-------------Nedum---------------Robbo------------Bids
Pav----------------Luongo-------------Scowen------------Smyth
--------------------------Freeman------------------------------------
----------------------------------Smith--------------------------------

Sylla would have suited this more than Smith but he's mangled. Could try Oteh instead maybe.

Mate I respect you endless optimism but Ian Holloway think's he's a really good tactical coach and that three at the back is great. He won't change until it's too late and he's sacked.

If he plays that team in that shape (I'd prefer 4231 or 433) then I'd weep with joy.

4-4-2 Please , we need to win

GK Smithies
RB- Furlong
LB Bidwell
CB Ned
CB Robinson
LW Bright
CM Luango
CM Freeman
RW Pavel
CF Smith
CF Washington

there you have it simple and effective with actual wingers crossing balls to the big man

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

It'll be the same system but he'll start Smith and Wszolek is my bet.

Smithies

Baptiste, Onuoha, Robinson

Wszolek, Bidwell

Scowemango

Smith Washington

I do like Scowemango. That'll never get old.

It's almost as satisfying as the Gigi DiCanio Bernie & Flavio song.

Just a shame about the rest of the team.

May I suggest the following...

4-2-3-1

Smithies
Furlong, Ned, Robinson, Bidwell
Luongo, Scowen,
Pav, Freeman, Smyth
Smith

Go on Ollie - give it a try my son?!

I go 100% with your side Bklyn.

-------------------------------Smithers-------------------------------
Furlong-------------Nedum---------------Robbo------------Bids
Pav----------------Luongo-------------Scowen------------Smyth
--------------------------Freeman------------------------------------
----------------------------------Smith--------------------------------

Freeman off Smith with two wide men makes total sense, as does 4-4-2. Sadly Ollie will probably go with this.

-------------------------------Smithers-------------------------------
Nedum----------------- Baptiste------------ Robbo
Furlong----------------Luongo-------------Scowen------------Freeman ------- Bids
------------------------------Washington-------------------------------
------------------------------Washington again-------------------------------

Pav as reserve keeper, Smyth reserve keeper, Smith held back until we are two down, Manning weeping quietly, Oteh drowning in the deep end, Chair on a bench, Eze as he'll never get on, Ingram as makeshift striker.

Never knowingly right.

Clive's right. We'll all be hoping for width, but it'll be 3-5-2 as always.

Bare bones.

You may - but only if you acknowledge I suggested in October.

Minus Smyth back then. I'd have him in now. Looked great.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

I like Ollie, but surely to goodness the man has to try playing a system the players can actually play.

‘morbid curiosity about where this is all going’

You are probably right. I just hope its not another game, where we have to change it up later when its not working - even though its clear from the kick off that there will be no width

What frustrates me is that I think most of us agree we need width yet we don't use it. We could get better results, more attractive football and get the most out of his players this way. This will help him regain a bit more support than in recent weeks where some are starting to doubt.

We don't have the best side in the world, but it looks decent enough to me if we play to our strengths, and not sure we are at the moment

The wonder kid is fit don't forget and he did say he would make changes AND Baptiste hooked at H/t v BC.

Plus he seems to like Conor as we know, so I think it will be your team except Lynch instead of Baptiste and Smyth instead of Smith - but obviously its all guesswork!

Agree with Pav for Furlong who I don't think has been great last two games (then again who has tbf!)

i don't think he'll play Smith and Washingon together, it will be little Smyth and big Smyth up front

But there's more to it than that shirley Dave?

Having a fast young nutter in front of him allows Bidwell to concentrate on the defensive things that he's reasonably good at.

Having Furlong behind Pav may cause Pav to venture toward the byline a bit more often.

Multiplier effect or something.

Personal opinion is that Furlong is a good orthodox RB, not so good on the right side of a defensive 3 and completely out of position as a wing back - not really his fault but given that and his last two performances I wouldn't be playing him.

I just hope he picks the following 11 players.....

Smithies, Furlong, Onuoha, Batiste, Robinson, Bidwell, Freeman, Scowen, Lloungo, Cousins & Smith....and if Perch is fit I would play him in place of one of them.

I don't really care about systems tbh, 442, 352, 3511, etc, etc. The players have got to be flexible and knowledgeable enough to change during the game depending on how its going. All I ask is that if Smith plays we don't get Onuoha constantly knocking 40 & 50 yards balls to his head - get it wide and get to the by-line and send in various types of crosses. Simple really.

Not seen that much of the youngsters but I am not that impressed with the young lads....cant see any of them making the grade.

1962 - Mark Lazarus on the right wing and Clive Clarke on the left - and we'd walk this division.

But we don't have anyone near their ability. We are stuffed.

Why do I sound like my Dad 50 years ago? Because he was right then and I'm right now.

I just hope we get plenty of corners - that's our one chance of scoring goals.

Answer to your question - See 2nd goal v Cardiff & 2nd and 3rd goals v Burton (Fairly recent history)

Get it wide with that 11?! Jeez. Who are your wide players?! You've picked an 11 that can only be a 5311. Real attacking width there!

"I don't really care about systems". Says it all. Cheers, Harry.

Why buy them then - if they're 'not very good'?

Are you honestly saying you hope a change of formation fails just so you can prove a point Dave?
