Nah, scored too often.

Not a bad comparison. Their records almost identical except for the fact Sheron had around 50 starts and 6 subs for his 13 goals and Connor has had about 50 starts and 30 subs for his 13.

Bare bones.

According to Wikipedia Sheron scored 19 goals in 63 appearances (about a goal every 3 games)

Washington has scored 13 in 84 games (a goal every 6 games)

Sheron although not living up to our record transfer fee at the time (and the hype/expectations) was a much better goalscorer than Washington will ever be.

In terms of physicality, pace and gait, Washington reminds me more of tony sealy than Sheron. Not as good as Sealy obviously. imo.

Didn't Sealy get 16 goals when we went up?

Aside from that only 2 other goals

Total 18 goals in 68 games

Venables got all of them playing well including Sealy

The real tragedy of the Sheron thing was Clive Mendonca was available and scoring prolifically at this level for Grimsby for £1m, which Charlton paid and went up instead.
Spencer was a great signing but there were so many others kicking around at that stage for less than the drek we bought - Keller, Matt Elliott, Alex Rae, Andy Booth, Mendonca. Imagine if we'd bought that lot instead of Sommer, Zelic, Hateley, Sheron, Morrow, Rose etc bought the land behind the school end... What would our club look like now?

Must be on the minority here but for his failure to score on a regular basis I thought Sheron was half decent for us, way better than Washington and a more intelligent footballer, cold Friday night up in Sunderland losing 2-0 with 15 minutes to go and Sheron came trumps with two goals to get us a point. I'd driven up there in an Escorts van full of beer swilling Rangers fans so the long journey was a bit more cheerful. If in the unlikely event you're reading this Mike Sherron thanks for them goals if nothing else.

I still have faith in Connor. It's not too late for him to improve a lot, plus he's far from the worst striker we have had.

The whole team needs to improve its finishing, though. We are not Barca, we are not going to create 100s of chances, so we must become more clinical.

Connor Washington = Danny Dichio

Are you really comparing CW to Daniele Salvatore Ernest Dichio aka, DJ Danny or the Hammersmith Horse?
For a start, Danny was one of our own and didn't cost the club a transfer fee. Secondly Washington's meagre return of 14 goals in 88 appearances doesn't bear comparison to Danny's return of 20 goals in 75 appearances and Dichio probably played around a third of those games in the Prem against much better defenders. And thirdly he made a substantial number of goals for King Kevin which helped Gallen break Jimmy Greaves' scoring record in South East Counties football.
The only thing I had against him was our not getting a fee when he left to play in Italy, presumably because he let his contract run down.

Sheron was a lightweight, but more skillful than Washington.

For a bit of context, the purchase of Sheron was part of Chris Wright's 'Fernandes phase'. Sheron had started off at Manchester City, so like some of our Premiership purchases a few years ago was seen as bringing a bit of big club glam to QPR. This is how David Conn described events:

'QPR, Wasps and Loftus Road each had their own chief executives. QPR's, Clive Berlin, a former players' agent, was given a £100,000 salary, plus bonuses, benefits and a car.

The extravagant deals which Berlin then did, flush with the flotation money, look, in hindsight, endearingly homespun compared to the exotic talent on which other clubs were spending their own nouveaux riches. Two of the big signings, Gavin Peacock and John Spencer, were pushed out by the Euro-influx at Chelsea which began with Ruud Gullit and Gianluca Vialli. Mike Sheron, a £2.5m signing from Stoke, was the other major signing of Wright's reign. According to Davies, the salary deals for players were, simply, too much, and for too long. Most players were on five-year deals. Fifteen youth team players were on full-time salaries, with several being paid £50,000-£60,000 a year and three or four on over £100,000 a year.'

both have been played out of position - ironically in each other's position, which led to a drop in confidence and our more intelligent fans getting on their backs and not afraid to tell them so

Sheron was a wide player, who scored quite a few goals for Stoke so was played as a centre forward

Washington is a striker who has played on left wing.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

CW has played plenty of games as the front 1 or part of a front 2.... He’s just not very good at his job - scoring goals.

Yeh I think a year ago Washington could have argued that we'd misused him, and there are plenty of others at QPR who weren't given a fair crack of the whip, but he's been played regularly, up front, as a one or a two, and everywhere else besides. It may still end well, and I can't imagine it's easy playing up front for QPR in the Championship, but he can't complain about lack of opportunity.

From offy, looks like our latest great hope might start on Sat.

Agree he should, but not sure about the wisdom of publically dropping a player this far in advance of a match in such a public way!

That game was live on Sky

To this day I have not seen worse stats for an away side.
We were complete gash

However, I'd foolishly sad in the kip of an 'Oirish boozer at 2-0 we were watchin it in "if we get anything here tonight I'm buying the only bottle of champagne they've probably got behind the bar".
At FT I was marched to the bar - the fat bint thought I was joking... the cheeky gat of a guv'nor went to the offy, bought one back and doubled the price!!! We ahd to drink it, warm, out of wine glasses.

I hated wing-nut even more from that day on.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I drove up for the game with a mate. The statistics do not lie, we were bloody terrible (and Sunderland looked a promotion side all night long.) TBF to Sheron, as per Ted's original point, he absolutely stole us the point.

Apart from that the high point of his QPR career for me was the AKUTRs cartoon "Mike's Heron"

"Hi fans! I'm Mike..."

"And I'm his heron."

The comparison with Tony Sealy is interesting. At the beginning of that season where he scored 16 in our promotion run he was a bit of a laughing stock amongst fans. You could argue that 16 goals in a team that dominated the league enough to win it by 10 points was not a great return. I wonder how many Washington might get in such a team?

As for Sheron, a massive disappointment. I do have one fond memory though. My brother pestered me (I took a lot of persuasion) into going to that game v league leading Boro where he scored twice and we caned them 5-0 in what was a huge shock.

He also joined Jamie Pollock as a QPR scorer that famous day at Maine Road. Ridiculous goal where we took a quick free kick with City stood there ball watching. I was in the away end just waiting for it to be disallowed but the goal stood and the rest is history.

The only reason that goal stood is because the referee had let Kinkladze do the same for their goal in the first minute - quick free kick while the keeper was setting the wall up. If that hadn't happened there's absolutely no way the referee would have allowed the Sheron goal.
