Scowen -- Am I the only one? 20:39 - Mar 17 with 3719 viewsDylanP

Am I the only one who thought we really missed Scowen today? In my mind, the build up to both of the Fulham goals occurred in exactly the sort of locations (just in front of the center backs) that Scowen is so effective. In both cases I thought to myself 'that wouldn't of happened with Scowen in the side coz that is exactly where he would have ben to snuff out the danger'

Did anyone else have that feeling?

He is probably in for the bite a little quicker but I think it is taking away a bit from us and not giving the Tarquins enough credit first half.

Scowen in many ways is the player of the season. If he didn't have that odd moment where he passes to an opposition player in dangerous areas he would probably be playing at a higher level than this. If he could get that out his game then at 24 he could get better and better.

Never knowingly right.

Scowen is my favorite player at the moment. I love watching Freeman and Luongo but Scowen is a player we've missed since Derry. He covers more ground than Derry although Derry was a bit more wiley which Scowen will become with experience. I think we have a very good player on our books here.
Can we keep him please. ?

Thought we missed him desperately. Playing in the anchor role is a specialist's job. We don't have anyone else who can do it half as well as him. Manning's defensive positioning is still a work in progress as could be seen in the first half and Luongo gets drawn up the field as that's what he's used to doing.

Fulham were excellent at overloading our midfield in the first half and I'm not sure even Scowen would have stopped them but he would've been far more adept because of his experience in the role, and we badly missed him.

With the current squad we would always miss Scowen, he has been excellent for us this season, Overall you get consistency from him and he doesn't give the ball away as much as other midfielders.

If i could only hold onto one of Freeman, Loungo and Scowen this summer i would keep Scowen.

All about opinions and I agree, Scowen is the important one. Hopefully, Grant Hall can come back next season and be back up when he is not CB...

Can we go out yet?

We definitely missed Scowen, Luongo and Freeman in particular are not really ball winners. The first goal I am sure Scowen would have been closing down the shot, Cairney was given far too much space and time to shoot, the CBs had no protection in front of them and could not step out to fill the space. Second goal was down to Pav not covering his man, but again Scowen may have been there to get a foot in and prevent the goal. Apart from those couple of lapses I thought we played pretty well first half, but did not press high enough up the pitch to prevent Fulham passing the ball about. When we did that in the second half, we showed that Fulham have to play the way they do because when we forced them to knock long balls forward by closing them down it was evident they had nobody up front who could win the long ball against our defenders. Hopefully a lesson learnt there. But watching the game today I reckon we would have taken all three points had Scowen been playing.

Statto alert!

I never get tired of saying it, Luongo makes the more successful tackles than any other player in the division, and is definitely a ball winner.

He didn't yesterday! I don't think he, and certainly not Freeman, can play in front of the defence to protect the CBs. I'm not sure we have anybody who can apart from Scowen, who I would imagine will now be out for a period so we'll see what the manager comes up with.

Scowen definitely POTY for me

He’s given other players the ability to play and is the type of player I / we have been crying out for. As well as his ratting he also has a shot on him and can pick a pass. Obviously he’s not the complete player, if he was he’d be at the division above, but he’ll do for me.

Free transfer of the season

Be fantastic if we could turn up another few like him, especially in the striker positions

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Luongo is a great ball winner but it isn't really his game to play a disciplined holding midfield role - he is best suited to winning the ball slightly higher up the pitch and I thought we massively missed Scowen's anticipation, pitch coverage and general presence on Saturday, especially in the first half.

Things improved when Manning switched into central midfield but I definitely think there's an argument that Scowen is the least replaceable of our midfield 3, at least in terms of what we have in the squad right now. Freeman and Luongo are both very good players but in Eze and Manning we have decent replacements for both of them - I'm not sure we have anyone who can do what Scowen does and that showed on Saturday- at least to start.

I agree we haven’t got anyone in the current squad who’s a natural in that position. Having said that Robinson might be good in that role. He’s proved to be pretty adaptable and he has the defensive posiioning that others may lack.

Next season Hall could play that role if required. He’s shown he can play defensive midfield as well as centre back. Really hope this op sorts out his long term issues.
