Man City goalkeeper. Spent a season on loan at Norwich. Just gone to Southampton for £13.5m.

We were robbed blind for Smithies.

its just typical of the reign of TF ,
Austin 4 million
Phillips 6 Million
smithies 3.5 million

all of that covers one Angus Gunn , the most we have ever got was for Sterling and he never played a minute for us

The clue is in the words 'Man City goalkeeper'.

Gunn: Upwardly mobile Premier League Champions/fan base with huge expectations.

Smithies: Club with ambitions to finish as high in Championship as 15th place/fan base that has practically given up on things like expectations and sees 15th as a cause for celebration.

Guess who goes for £13.5m and £3.5m? Not rocket science.

Yep, deja vu!

How old is he, how long was his contract and did he have a release clause.

Oh! and I've just realised it's Hughes!

Cardiff were very fortunate to beat off the intense interest from numerous other clubs in signing Smithies.

Poll: Come on then, let's have it.

Depends how your fame it. Smithies is far more experienced and has shown his quality over a number of years. Could argue that Gunn is younger with more chance of resale value.

But whichever way I look at it, can't help but think we undersold Smithies by at least a couple bars.

clue is in the manager, Hughes has massively over paid due to Gunn being at a big club, he is star struck by them and always buys on name of player or selling club rather than value for money

Yeah its Hughes - always paying inflated prices
bet he is using the same agent that ripped us off.

Still wondering how much went into the Hughes pocket from those crap transfers

He'll bin him before the window shuts when another extortionately priced goalkeeper is offered to him by his dodgy advisory.

Puts paid to the theory put forward when we let Smithies go for peanuts that it's because he hasn't got any Premier League experience.

Smithies is a far better keeper, has much more experience, and is a better age for a goalkeeper than Gunn.

An uncapped Jordan Pickford goes for £25m a year ago, an uncapped keeper with one season in the Championship goes for £13m, and we get £3m for Smithies. The people doing these deals shouldn't be allowed on the till at Tesco, let alone negotiating transfers. As if these idiots haven't done enough damage already. If it wasn't us, we'd be laughing at whoever it was, it's so diabolical.

Exactly, a player is ONLY worth what another club are willing to pay. It is no use demanding a fee and no one being interested. We need money for other more critical areas and we have 3 very acceptable keepers in Ingram, Lumley and Dieng.

I can see where you're coming from and no doubt Cardiff's negotiators put forward a similar argument. However QPR's negotiators should present a very different picture based on what's important - the talent of the player rather than who their parent club is.

Always equate players prices to London house prices is a house in Lambeth really 6 times more valuable than a house in Burnley nope but it's what's expected think Premiership big club player versus Championship player
