Blue Plaque 13:48 - Jul 14 with 5136 viewsBoston

I was slightly surprised this morning to learn that the London Borough of Brent only has one of those Blue Plaques installed within its boundaries. It’s on the wall of 11 Forty Lane in Wembley Park, just before you hit Blackbird Cross and enter the badlands of Neasden. Apparently the bloke who cavorted around as Old Mother Riley lived there. Now god bless him, but surely we have others as/more deserving of this memorial? Farks name, Keith Moon lived up by me for starters.

I'm always interested in these plaques. Where I live we have Ghandi and James Hunt. Alfred Hitchcock a few miles away. In Barnes there is Gustav Holst.

I think English Heritage run the scheme and I imagine people nominate worthies to be honoured thus. There is an exceptionally large amount listed for my borough - Hammersmith and Fulham, but many of them are displayed at the BBC Centre in Wood Lane near to our beloved stadium

Charlie Watts lived in the prefabs near the roundabout at start of Fryant Way/Barn Hill road.

They got removed in the mid 60's I think.

Sherlock Holmes has a blue plaque in East Dean. He's entirely fictional but this is where he fictionally retired apparently.

About a year ago I walked past one in Greenford. I’d never seen it before despite being in/out of the parish since the 60s, so not sure when it went up.

It’s on a building on Oldfield Lane, just next to the slip road into the Black Horse pub. Site of some scientific discovery.

Sir William Perkins School is now on the site of the old Glaxo Sports Ground in Oldfield Lane. The school blazer color is mauve, after the dye invented by Sir William Perkin.
