Portsmouth doing well this season 18:23 - Oct 13 with 2107 viewskropotkin41

It'd be pretty amazing if they get promoted with their financial and ownership structure.

I can just see the club that has p*ssed half a billion up the wall ending up in 16th next season, one place lower than the club owned by its fans and with a self-denying no debt rule.

Didn't they get taken over but an American billionaire earlier this year, fella who used to run Disney

Kenny Jackett doing an excellent job again though

What difference does being owned by a billionaire make

The only difference in being owned by a millionnaire or a billionaire is that there is only one n in billionaire. Neither can put money into the club until FFP is changed.

Unfortunately FFP bars those billion differences

Being skint for so long they haven't had the money to spend to get anywhere near breeching FFP. Now a billionaire has bought the club there is money to spare. That's how they managed to bring in 14 players, bought and loans, and give free transfers to 4 players. That's what fresh money can do.

If they are willing to gamble (see Wolves and Villa), it might make a massive difference. We could cock up if we led the league by 12 points with 4 games left. Anyone else spending what our Owners spent could never cock it up like our lot have...

Can we go out yet?

Sorry but how are Portsmouth comparable to Wolves and Villa? How are Villa comparable to Wolves?

Why are we even talking about this?

I think that's my fault. I didn't know they'd been taken over.

Last time I looked Wheeler had been an almost permanent unused substitute, has that changed?

Overspending v FFP. Wolves did it last season and won the gamble. Villa have done it since they got relegated and, unless they go up this season (unlikely) will have lost the gamble. If Pompey's owners want to gamble, they could and we'd see what happens...

Being owned by a SENSIBLE billionaire makes a huge difference

FFP has no bearing on investing in the infrastructure, youth and future of the club
From those green shoots a strong club can be built and success may well follow, not guaranteed but more chance than not.

The alternative is to chuck dosh at players like confetti, expect that cash buys success on the pitch and watch as it all goes up in flames

I’d agree that FFP is still a load of old bollox but there are other ways to safeguard clubs without oppressing those who want to grow

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

True at the moment but if any club adopting that policy ever looked like breaking the status quo the rules would soon be changed
