Incredbile what's happening over there at the moment against India.

12 months ago, they were skittling England with incredible displays of swing bowling whilst the greatest swing bowler in the world Jimmy could fine no swing whatsoever.

12 months on pretty much the same bowling attack can't get the ball to move whatsoever and are getting tonked by India batsmen.

No flipping way was sandpaper-gate a one-off incident against S.Africa, nor was it isolated to fall guy Bancroft. All the current Oz bowlers must be feeling pretty nervous right now.

only if interesting means a completely one sided affair.

I doubt Warner will be back in the summer - probably never. Smith cannot be captain. I wonder were either of them are at mentally in any case. we know a lot of cricket is played in the mind, so eve if they do come back, it would take a special effort for them to be anything close to top form.

I hope smith comes back, it was heartbreaking to see him in tears in front of his father at that press conference.

Bancroft probably won’t be unless he makes runs in shield cricket end of this year and maybe might be back on 2020.

I think warner is done completely now for Aus

It is quite clear that the Aussie cricket hierarchy have seen how weak the team is without Warner and Smith (possibly less concerned by Bancroft) and have been putting some lines through the media to test the water for their return. Saw a lot of that last week with spin from them about how the Aussie Cricket establishment has changed, but bears responsibility in part for creating the environment to encourage the cheating.

Then we had lines of they have (almost) served their sentences and should be rehabilitated because they have shown remorse (cue Smith's recent advert with all proceeds going to charity).

Now we are seeing a leveraging up from Langer and Paine that they should be available for selection asap and no reason for them not to return.

Bancroft has used the line that he was the new boy facing peer pressure from senior players. Smith is clear that he didn't know, but should have done as captain and he has a moral responsibility to be punished (not entirely convinced by his apparent ignorance given this is unlikely to have been a one off, just first that was caught on camera). Warner (who appears to be the main cause of this incident) has said little convincing beyond initially being sorry at the start of the whole shebang (a cynic might say he was sorry for being caught).

Never knowingly understood

It thought it was pretty obvious it had been going on for a while and they were likely all complicit. That's why the people were actively trying to catch them at it.

I can’t any way that the bowlers didn’t know what was going on too?The ball gets sanded down on one side and a player who specialises in trying to get the batsmen out by polishing the other side to affect its travel through the air doesn’t know about it?Or chooses to keep quiet about it more likely.

An interesting article on cricinfo about Starc in the main but also quoting the averages of both him and Hazlewood since they were found out. The article tries to put some different explanations forward as to their sudden slump in form, but it is clear that the author has any convinced by their own arguments.

Absolutely correct. It would almost certainly have been the bowling 'group' that instigated that practice in the first place. I could never understand why cricket writers across the world didn't call them out. Even though it may have been seen as preferable to get rid of that nasty little man Warner, the likes of Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins should also have been sited in my opinion.

Doubt if Warner will wear the baggie green again. Smith will be back. After this Test, the Aussies only have 3 Test matches before the opening Ashes match at Edgbaston. Not many to get themselves right. They are in a deep trough currently and I think it will be relatively short odds on England getting a 5 nil white wash. Let's hope so. Our turn now.

That puts a lot of flesh on the inference in the OP of this thread.

It's actually got me quite p*ssed off, because the last Ashes were a humiliation. I hope we take the to the cleaners in the summer.

Also begs the question as to why the umpires hadn't noticed any peculiarities with the ball when it was handed to them.

Been a great summer down here so far - NZ going well beating Pakistan in UAE then Sri Lanka & loving Aussie series. India have very good side & Aussie batsmen can't cope.
Even better after them winning in Perth - India meant to be on ropes...

The bowling averages of Starc & Hazelwood are very poor vs previous & can't believe they were unaware of any changes in conditIon of a newish ball. Warne has been pretty critical & is generally a pretty fair pundit.
Smith definitely back & sure Warner will be in short form at least.

It's pretty obvious it was going on in the Ashes. Just look at the way Warner use to come out to field with his fingers bandaged.
The reports of Smith and Warners behaviour since isn't exactly glowing either.

Cannot believe Broad and Root the only Englishmen to have called the Aussies on the 1 off explanation Smith will be back because this is as poor an Aussie batting lineup as I've seen.Hopefully a whitewash but sadly England too restrictor that

They defo cheated during the ashes. Now they've been caught, suddenly no hint of reverse swing from their overrated bowling attack while the visitors are still able to find it. England might just spank them I think and it will be no more than they deserve. Awful team culture has existed for a very long time.

Exactly. They're fooling nobody, just didn't want to ban the whole squad. The bowlers are in charge of the ball.

Most Aussies (including me) were so disgusted after the ball tampering/cheating thing that a lot of us stopped watching or caring about cricket. It is now dying a slow death in this country and if they let those two prats come back before their ban is finished, that will be the final death knell. So many people have said to me that the whole incident made them ashamed to be an Aussie for the first time in their lives. Black letter day. 😕

Cheats should burn in hell whatever the sport. Fck ‘em! Fck them all!
