Chris Mepham - He's One of our Own 17:37 - Jan 22 with 2434 viewsParkRoyalR

Best of luck to the lad and hope deal goes through.
Watford turned him down as 'was nt at level they wanted and there were quite a few things he needed to improve on', whereas Rangers said 'we can't see anything we can work on with you' which surely must have been miscommunicated as that's just beyond insulting to a young lad on trial, no wonder he nearly gave up on pro football.

Good luck to him, he's a very good player. You would like to think if he came to the club now at 16/17 then he'd be kept on.

Just communicated with his dad, other teams offered better terms but he was impressed with Eddie Howe.

So that's:

Mepham for 12m (academy)
Tarkowski for 3m (plus add ons) (bought from Oldham)
Andre Gray for 6m (bought from Luton)
Scott Hogan for 9m (bought from Rochdale from 750k)
Jota for 6m (bought for approx. 1.5m from Spain)
Obudajo for 3m (bought from Leyton Orient)

And harlee dean, ryan woods, lasse vibe, jake bidwell. the list goes on and on

this is clearly a policy from brentfords football directors, which is forced on to the managers. managers always prefer to play more experienced players than youth, as its generally a less risky proposition and managers are scared that a few bad results will get them the sack

while we have made good progress with young players, the only way we can turn them into multimillion pound players is by actually playing them. there should be some directive coming from the top so that a player like oteh who can easily be a multimillion pound player is getting opportunities ahead of someone like matt smith who is a depreciating asset

its also hard to believe that we're this deep into January and almost none of our young players have been loaned out in either window

Eddie Howe seems to be doing great work with other young english players so he's done right not to chase the poundnote and go to another club who might have changed their manager before he even gets to the training ground.

Whilst staying competitive in the Championship and funding a new Stadium. Seriously impressive.

Yeah but was more about him having a better chance of taking a team to the prem, didn't work out for him but don't think it was about chasing money
