Maybe he was just as poor a coach as he was a manager for Rangers.

To be honest I think he is a good coach if someone is saying do this and do that. The problem seems to be when he has to make managerial decisions. I often wondered whether it would have been better giving Eustace the job and having McClaren work as the coach under him. He's a good number 2 but not a number 1. He proved that here under Arry.

Never knowingly right.

Always thought Mclaren was someone who was a coach who could pass any coaching qualification in his sleep. We here about players getting lots of good technical information which again is what is required on a coaching course. Player A goes there, Player B could do this etc. All very structured and Proffesional, you’ve heard that before. The FA is full of them.

So can he put a team together, be creative, have insights. What is his football philosophy. I have no idea. I saw a quote in ‘when Saturday comes’ when he was England manager saying he didn’t like the word entertainment about football, it was about results. I have tried to find the quote but had no success.

Seems to me he can coach to pass a badge, be professional and put others around him with skills in his weaker areas yet weirdly still comes across as a bit lost.

Question therefore is, does he have any flair/magic/spark the for game we love. Not sure he does.

I think you're right.

We certainly could do with a coach, as in a manager who specialises in trying to improve players, given the fact we can't buy them any more.

Chris Ramsey springs to mind. Don't know why they didn't put Chris in temporary charge. He did nothing to be sacked in the first place.

I think Mcclaren is just battle weary, set in his ways and unable to change . Same as Pardew, Allardyce etc.
He can set a team up and coach it but is purely safety first. We get a goal then the instruction is to just waste time and sit on that lead. A total dinosaur.

I'd be up for Ramsey getting another go. Does anyone know, though: is he?
