I suppose the two most famous are King George V who is supposed to have said “Bugger Bognor” and Franco who, when told that the people wanted say goodbye said “Why, where are they going ?”
My favourite is Adam Faith who said “ 'ere, that Channel 5's shit innit? “

Also like the story that Oscar ordered a bottle of champagne that he knew he couldn't afford but wouldn't have to pay for, and said "I'm dying beyond my means".

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

Sorry, Baz, this one just isn't funny. It says to me the gulf in society between those that consider stabbing a ludicrous, highly improbable outcome and those that have little or no compunction against extreme violence.

My plaudit will always go to John Le Mesurier for his "It's all been rather lovely."

Spike Milligans headstone says ' I told you I was ill' but it's written in Gaelic as Rother Council refused to allow it in English. He's buried about 500 yards from Rod Hulls house.

I don't think you're correct re Bognor unless you've got some new source? Actually it was me wot coined the phrase when my parents repeatedly took us as a family to Pagham, near Bognor ( not my last words though)
