Till will be fighting Whitaker about this time tomorrow (26th), probably an hour or two later, maybe 04.00 gmt if i have to guess. A victory and he may be able to get a title shot against Adesanya. Come on our kid. There are several other British fighters on the card as well, Tom Aspinall looks exciting at heavyweight, fast for a big bloke.
So the UFC has taken to calling Muay Thai specialists a 'Muay Thai black belt'. Why would they do that? There are no belts in Thai boxing, you can't be a black belt boxer, Thailand is not China or Japan.
Frustrating. Till looked a far superior technician in my opinion, but so many feints and posturing, he doesn't throw enough strikes to win. A combined total of 11 strikes in 10 minutes rounds 2 and 3. He lost that, he was the better fighter but didn't do enough.
Turns out Darren Till ruptured his medial collateral ligament* early in the second round. His leg's now in a cast for six weeks. Doctors were very surprised he managed to finish the fight at all, let alone not really lose. He was a class above in the first round when he could actually move, won the first round comfortably.
Gutsy effort in that case Darren, great effort. And not making excuses about it afterwards either - rare nowadays when the world acts with such little class most of the time.
* Ruptured by an oblique kick from Whittaker, a bloody dirty move, should never be allowed. Although i've seen Darren Till use them too.
