Once Dickie makes his debut it will all get sorted,..... oh dear! Hope we haven't broke our new CB already..

It’s all very well to play pretty football but when you start the season making the same mistakes you made all last season then there is surely something wrong with the coaching. Surely Warburton needs to concede that a cost effective signing would be a specialist defensive coach for the back room. Starting to get a bit annoyed that we seemingly never learn.

Never knowingly right.

Last year we conceded the most goals in a season for 50 years, I'd be amazed if we don't concede 70+ again this year.

I don’t think Warburton has the answer.

At the very least he could make them get tighter, put a foot in, disrupt simple crosses coming in, but it never happens.

Also think we might find a few of our better performers last season won’t look so good without Eze alongside them.

£20m is a lot of dosh and that will be totally wasted if the management can’t coach defensively.

Sorry, but MW needs to buck his ideas up fast. It’s no good rambling on about missed chances, that is not the problem.

It's not so much the personnel, it is the formation and the tactics. Full backs bombing on to join a fluid front 4. The DMs and CBs then have to cope when we inevitably lose the ball halfway in the oppos half.

If teams scout us properly, they'll leave two up top and will get a whole heap of 2 on 2s or overloads if they are quick on the counter.

The set pieces worry me hugely, but even with Dickie, every Rangers player is visibly shorter than who they were marking. The price to pay when you become obsessed with tippy tappy "ball players". We are going to concede 70+ again.

And the most alarming bit is where the goals are coming from. The one thing Redknapp said that I agreed with when he was manager was that you have a good idea how many goals are in your team by looking at past history. If a player averages 10 goals a season, they are likely to be around that every season. So, in losing Hugill, Wells and Eze, we have lost 45+ goals this season. I see no-one in the squad filling that...

Can we go out yet?

You have a really young and very inexperienced team, with a back line that will have played together for a few days at most. It is going to take a little bit of time for them to get used to playing together before they develop a better understanding.

I just wonder what people's expectations are in the circumstances. Given some of the comments on here I just wonder how realistic they are at this point. The defence will improve, with coaching and support. Hopefully if Rangel is doing his re-hab with us then it will also allow the club to draw him into providing a bit more advice and guidance for some of the youngsters in that unit.

Never knowingly understood

Based on last season plus snippets from former players I think we can all conclude that Warburton doesn’t do any defensive work. So essentially he’s only doing half of his job, makes the half that he is doing even more impressive but I’d start only paying him half of his salary until he gets it sorted.

Obviously we are doomed and definitely going to be relegated, tarred and feathered and banned from the public library system. Won't somebody please think of the children?

I blame Cameron. Not Geoff, David.

This a 100%

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

half our problems are how we play, it's all out attack, both full backs pushed up so when Amos gives the ball away in our own half we are in trouble, until we get better at defending we'll struggle, as a team we are far too easy to score against

Defence on 15:12 - Sep 5 with 2456 viewsfrancisbowles

When you push your fullbacks on, so high up the pitch you leave lots of space. It is almost like playing with a back two. We need the rest of the team to do a better job in protecting them. The centre backs will be dragged wide and others need to drop in and pick up runners. I don't think we are going to change this any time soon but the whole team needs to defend better and stop giving possession away.

I thought Dickie mostly, did well. Looks very comfortable in possession. I thought Masterson was uncomfortable on the left. It may improve when Barbet returns.

Am I the only one who thinks Lumley could have done more to TRY and stop the third. He stood on his line and watched, surely he could have rushed the scorer and tried to block or at least put him under pressure.

Attacking wise our crossing was very poor. Stats said five successful out of 29!

I thought Tom Carroll was good and Amos and Oteh were ok. Amos mostly does the simple things well and both him and TC did move the ball on quickly.

Plymouth played well and their goalkeeper, who I think is only 19 had a great game.

Given this style of play with the wingbacks pushing on it would be nice to have someone in that role Grant Hall played a couple of years ago where he is defensive mid but steps back into the back three when the wingbacks bomb on

Sorry Dane, i can`t agree with any of that. That defence that played today bar dickie lined up on many ocassions last season, as we shifted a record number of goals. The defence that also included Rangel.

that's the thing that bugs me most about Lumley, the number of times he concedes without even attempting to make a save, at least Roberts used to make a token dive (after the ball had hit the net)

If we keep him, why not put Manning back where he belongs, in Midfield and put Wallace at left back.

Kakay is improving with each game and Dickie and Barbet will hopefully gel.

We do need another CB and most definately a striker if Dykes gets injured.

It's okay, don't apologise, I was just agreeing with you. I said that in a game where you have eight efforts on target (usual thinking is that ten is almost a guaranteed win) and still lose, then your defence has got big problems.

That's also exactly what I said - thanks for the repeat!

Seriously though, we all need to ask ourselves whether we'd want to change back to a backs to the wall, fight it out for a 1-0 style or whether this style of football is better. Going "pragmatic" with a squad built for a Warburton team would be suicide and dull as feck to boot, so as long as we don't lose every week (which is unlikely), I'm willing to stick with this lot and this formation...

Like Brian has said many times on here, I actually enjoyed watching much of that game today. Yes, ultimately I hated the fact that we lost, but there was some good stuff in there.

..and LTC actually showed glimpses that he has a lot more to offer than Luke the Friendly Ghost.

Controversial view here: Dickie looked good, but he didn't seem "fast" to me. Aside from the reported wage issue, is he materially better than the BFG?

I honestly cant see the panic , we started this game with a new centre half pairing , one full back who broke into the team during lockdown and Manning who we seem surprised to find is not a great defender but a good crosser and scores some handy goals.

This was a shakedown game , nothing more .Our Club together with dozens of others dont care much for Cup competitions, why are we so surprised and indignant every September and January. We have had loads of managers and they all take the same view.

In November /December if we are leaking goals and losing matches the manager will be under pressure , but for now, IMO.. let him get on with it .

Manning was responsible for the first and third today. Ball for the second, whereby he let his man get the shot in too easily. Many times Plymouth players went past BAll today, I suspect he's injured as he's a yard off the pace compared to usual.

For Manning the first was just pure laziness he did not run back and his man scored. The third was a lack of mental capacity to understand the danger in advance of the cross.

He just isn't a defender, Wallace needs to start. Even though Wallace is slow, he makes sure he's in the correct position and runs back all the time.

I suspect Warbs is talking about the attack in public, but in private expect him to go mental. He's just trotting out these lines to protect the players. In private I expect the hairdryer treatment.

I also expect Manning to be dropped for Wallace on Saturday. Barbs, Dyke to be back. If Thomas is back then Amos could find himself dropped.

LTC was quite good as he played the ball forwards and not always back and sideways. If continues to do that we have a bargin deal there. We shall see, but he's worth keeping his place over Amos iuf Thomas is back.

zzzzzzzzzz
