Football certainly does not a restructuring. The problem is if the Govt doesn't intervene then the game will undoubtedly be restructured even further in favour of the few at the top to the detriment of everyone else (and everyone else will be complicit in it happening on the off chance that one day they may be a part of the 'few'). The other problem is if the Govt doesn't intervene and the game doesn't restructure itself then the Premiershit will likely just let everyone else sink

Could also see a few pre-K clubs try and buy lower league clubs as feeder clubs as well they benefit as non first team players get to play in proper football matches not meaningless u23 games and progress quicker

There are easy ways to do it without the government getting involved.

Make these streams go to one fund at the EFl and distribute equally among all clubs to ensure all clubs are having a kind of ticket income until fans can come back.

Bring in wage caps to get some control over what is being spent

Long term change the way parachute payments are done and split money across all clubs rather than just the ones coming down. Clubs coming down would need to control their finances a bit better rather than spend 3 years of Prem money in one summer

Think it’s absolutely essential that Championship clubs are forced to sign up to a wage cap if they accept any bailout from Premier League.

At the same time I’d like the Government commit to a transfer tax of say 20% that goes into a pot that’s redistributed amongst EFL and grass roots football. Think the spending, Premier League alone, in summer 2019 was nearly £1.5 billion, so £300 mill in lower leagues football would go a long way to make football financially viable throughout.

Which Championship club will fall first?

Macclesfield and Bury already gone. Bolton & Oldham on serious troublé.

I suspect 20-30 clubs could go bust without fans

It's possible that quite a few Championship clubs will move into administration and take the 12pt hit. Do it early and you still have a chance of being in the Championship next season.

Football as we know it is gone
Clubs are going to go and if your not in the Prem then know one gives a fcuk
SKY sports are only interested in the transfer round up, City spent 60 million on a centre back yesterday, that could of kept league one & 2 going for 5 years
People are on furlough at clubs but arsenal/ spurs are happy to hand out 250/350k a week to players
Chelsea have shelled out 250 million yet have a squad of around 80 players
Martin Tyler had the cheek last night to say during the Liverpool game that prem clubs are feeling the pinch financially !!!!
As the likes of Oldham , Bolton go to the wall their place will be taken by a B team , Chelsea could field 4 teams if they wanted, and this is where we are heading , the league cup is a joke as EFL teams are trounced 6/7 nill
I’ve cancelled my sky subscription this morning, the taking the knee crap from the other week, the likes of soccer Saturday being crap, top pundits like Carragher , Neville , Dawson talking bollox , Micah Richards just laughing , the transfer window show and it’s fairy tales and top Bantz
It’s not football It’s not even good entertainment even
As they say in the USA “It’s jumped the shark”

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I cancelled mine Years ago, it's endless expensive bloody drivel

But.

It's sadly what the people want nowadays, endless drivel and waffle about nothing delivered direct to their houses as they sit there in their armchairs excitedly waiting for 'news' that doesn't exist anyway.

Celebrity junk food in my opinion, (celebrity? laugh/guffaw that sort of thing).

I’m a massive hypocrite because I said on the other SKY thread that I would ring up Virgin to cancel my contract which included my Sky Sports subscription. When I rang them up they offered me £30 off per month and the whole package works at £5/a pint per week more than just internet. I signed up.

I watch cricket, rugby league, rugby union and also the football. I would miss having the option than the access which is probably a psychological/status thing.

In my childhood, MNF was a thing, Super Sunday was a thing and for a while the
Saturday lunchtime game was a thing. Now the 24/7 coverage is running content thin and taking away the ‘event’ side of things.

This is a fantastic opportunity to readdress the alarming disparity between the haves and have nots in the game but whilst myself and others are still signing up then maybe it won’t spur them into action.

Coverage and business of the sport is a mess and the under 30s are now conditioned to constant transfer talk, betting and banter content. Christ, I used to buy the Sunday papers and look forward to the gossip sections.

P.s. I went into a real depressed state after the Boro game as I realised just how much I missed going to QPR. The pre-match, the food, the friends, the family, the game, the post match. Gone and with no return in sigh <sic>😔

I don’t think it’s the 24 hour coverage that’s the problem it’s the actual quality of the programme
Every pundit is the same , the same cliches , the overhype of transfers and bullsh1t
When SKY first came along it was a breath of fresh air , you had games you wouldn’t normally see with proper analysis, ok Andy Gray maybe a sexist bigot but he was a bloody good commentator it’s no surprise that Martin Tyler has gone downhill since he left
You had shows like the boot room , Goals on Sunday , Sunday supplement that actually had football people on until SKY decided to mess around with the format and the people
Sunday supplement was axed because no one watched it, the last time I saw i watched it didn’t have your boozed up Fleet Street hack but a load of academic kids who probably have never played football or paid to get in a ground , fans can’t relate to them
Soccer Saturday was trash telly you didn’t watch for the expert views you watched because it was fun ,
Goals on Sunday was good until Ben shepherd and Alex Scott came along , even soccer am was decent before lovejoy left
Take the football league show the other night , they got rid of Scott Minto for some woman who doesn’t know jack and they had the gall to criticise the club over taking the knee , it’s dumb virtue signalling tv now
SKY have gone so far away from the average fan and want fans want to watch , I’d be surprised if they last , they had a good formula but got greedy , loads of people I know are cancelling subscriptions

I don't think there was a golden age of sky. The world does change but they are losing subscribers last time a I checked so maybe the offer is not cutting through. Lovejoy was a gold plated c@nt though.

Suspect it will all be streams eventually.

Sky used to be the best by miles but the coverage on BT is a lot better these days as they just let the pundits talk and you get some interesting stuff from them. Sky use too many pundits imo so you never get much of a rapport with them apart from Neville and Carragher.
I used to love Martin Tyler but he's become a parody of himself recently.

Breathtaking, is right.

This is the fear that Clive alluded to in the podcast - that if a bailout were ever to come from the Premier League it would come with restrictions attached. This is a classic - give us your players cheap and we'll give few a few bob.

As I can't read this article without signing up to the Telegraph, could I ask please which Premier League side has made an offer for BOS & how much was offered?

I have seen reports of clubs being interested, but I've not seen anything other than Brugges making an offer.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/10/10/premier-league-discussed-using-p

The Premier League discussed on Friday giving the profit from its new pay-per-view system to the 48 clubs in League One and League Two as part of a bail-out of those divisions — as the row over the responsibility for who rescues the Football League continues.

The decision to charge £14.95 to watch any game that is not part of UK domestic broadcasters’ current match selections has been met with considerable opposition in some quarters but the Premier League clubs believe that there is no other option at a time when they are being asked by government to bail out football.

In the meeting this week in which the pay-per-view question was discussed, a number of clubs said that revenue from pay-per-view games sold individually should be part of the bail-out for Leagues One and Two. Speaking in favour were the Arsenal chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, and the Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish. By equal measure the Aston Villa chief executive, Christian Purslow, said that the pay-per-view income should not be a way for Premier League clubs to make a profit.

There is an acceptance that the league will have to save clubs in the two bottom divisions of the Football League, although the Premier League remains at loggerheads with the Championship which it sees largely as a financial basket case.

They have yet to make any final decision on how the revenue will be dispersed.

The clubs maintain that the essence of the pay-per-view policy was to end what they view as giving away free content to the main UK domestic broadcasters, Sky Sports and BT Sport. The clubs feel both have benefited from the increased subscriptions and advertising revenue from having a greater number of games on their platforms, without any extra cost. Now there is no prospect of fans returning to stadiums until March, the clubs felt it was impossible to continue to give the broadcasters all extra games beyond their match selections for no extra price.

The price was set in relation to the EFL’s iFollow pass which costs £10 per live game. The Premier League offering was considered superior because of higher production values.

You’d think Championship clubs would be falling over themselves to get a wage cap ratified, instead they seem quite relaxed about the whole thing.

A rare occasion I agree with the Premier League but they are absolutely right to resist helping us lot out until Championship clubs grasp they can’t carry on paying players obscene amounts of money they can’t afford.
