It's probably protocol now but I recall hearing of a ref removed from an allocated Premier game due to his affiliation or home town and implied integrity on that match (name / match anyone?).
I deffo remember at the time wondering how the hell Bolton fan Mason got our match given we were only about 6 matches from the end of the season in a relegation fight with them. As an aside, how the lino couldn't call that offside before the Derry "touch" remains a mystery | | | |
