If you're looking for some uncomplicated but good metal, Skinlab were fun.

Their album 'Disembody.. The New Flesh' is great.

Here's an example.

The last two Satan albums have been top notch.

After two fabulous EPs, I thought I had heard the last of this ensemble because the guitarist branched out into southern rock and more mainstream stuff, but now here we are and a new album is - praise be - on its way.

This is stunning instrumental rock music, an album's worth of ideas in a five minute track.

The only problem is, once you have listened to it, you might feel tempted to throw your guitar in the bin and give up playing. Don't, I say!

I know it doesn't really follow the style of metal in this thread (from what I've seen) but I am going to post Knocked Loose again who are more on the metallic hardcore side of things. They recently released 2 tracks and I must have listened to them 100 times already.

Oh and following on in that vein, a new band came out about 3-4 months ago now called Better Lovers. They have the singer from Dillinger Escape Plan and most of the rest of the band come from Every Time I Die. This was the first track they released but they also just released a 4 track EP last week.

That's pretty good, Landshark. I sort of liked DEP. They had one or two good songs per album but did tend to devolve into unlistenable faff a lot of the time. Greg (the singer) was always the best thing about them, along with whoever was playing drums for them that particular album. This plays to his strengths, has a bit of the DEP prog-ness to it and more of a hardcore style. I'll keep an eye on them for sure.

For a 10p rip off of The Damned I don't entirely hate it.

My old band played with them once. Thought they were great live. First album era.

Check out disembodied if you like them.

Great tune, interesting and unusual guitar solo, all 45,567 notes of it

I wasn't familiar with this ensemble before but I shall be investigating them further after stumbling across this.

Re: Carcass.

First album wasn't great (although the song Genital Grinder was).

Second album, Necrotism, is my favourite metal album ever.

Heartwork was decent.

Swansong was terrible.

Surgical Steel was a bit of a return to form but a little bit boring to be honest. It didn't have the hooks of Necrotism/Heartwork. Torn Arteries was a bit the same but with a bit too much of that hard rock influence that spoiled Swansong. The last two were okay but I can't think of any songs that live in the memory.

Ruptured In Purulence off of Symphonies of Sickness by a so good .

Agree about Necroticism . One of the greatest

Is it psych? Stoner rock? Prog? Who knows, perhaps all of the above, but it is definitely French and rather excellent, in my humble opinion:

This isn't new, I stumbled across it today, but man, it's tasty. Jim Matheos may not be the best guitarist in the world - although he's very good - but he is surely one of the best songwriters of the genre.
