...I answered a call to assist with a broken water pipe that was flooding a below grade kitchen. I had (with the out of town residents permission), to gain access by whatever method I deemed appropriate in an effort to stem the flow which was spilling into an abutting residence. Quickly entering the property by jemmying the window on an attached addition, then dropping six feet to the floor, I encountered a locked door leading to the main house. Leaning back, a firmly planted boot sprang it wide open, taking some of the moulding off the wall as it went. One of the two local plumbers following me turned to the other and said, "it's like working with James Bond".

Been laughing all afternoon.

It's on my bucket list, to dramatically boot open a door like that one day. Probably need to get on it while I'm still young and limber enough to get my leg up that high

Don't they have external stop valves under the pavement?

Yes, if you can find them under several inches of snow and ice.
