Rest of the Championship thread by Hunterhoop 10 Aug 2024 11:07Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc?
For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te?
Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull.
Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

An innovative solution that would have certainly melted the ice.

That’s shocking treatment of the away fans after a really long journey. I’m sure the ice around the dugouts must’ve been there all day?

Did they not have any salt or grit to put down and melt the ice?

They had heat lamps on from midday which apparently didn’t do the trick and it looks much like just about every match that did go ahead in the North. Bizarre. Funny for those who dislike Watford and more so knowing loads will have jumped on the bandwagon as it’s the sort of game they’d normally struggle to fill a coach for.

That would kill the grass. Rope matting was the obvious answer - or heat lamps on all night

I think Stow meant salt and grit for the dugout areas to melt the ice, not the pitch.

From a Watford mate: Nothing to do with the fact that Hull had 7 first teamers out injured. The rumour is overnight they put sprinklers on the dug out to ice it over. Not sure how true that is. Watford didn’t agree to the postponement, which they’ve made clear in social media posts. Def something fishy going on if they could clear the pitch but couldn’t find a kettle to melt the thin layer of ice around the dugout

It’s the ref’s call anyway but Hull clearly went to quite a lot of effort to get the pitch into a good state so I’m not buying the conspiracy theory. Though if Louza leaves it’s a big blow for them. Leicester v West Brom has a real El Sackico vibe tonight. Barely 10,000 in the ground.

Have you ever heard of a game getting called off 18 minutes before kick off, with a playable pitch, and the crowd already in the stadium (so no 'crowd safety' bollox), because the technical area is icy? They should be docked points. Absolutely outrageous.

No but it seems, just based on the little I’ve read, that this was much more the referee being a jobsworth (or just didn’t fancy it) than any negligence from Hull. Frost around the pitch looked much the same as lots of games that went ahead.

Can only assume the ref was local and didn't have to go far to get home and put his feet up with a cuppa!

Talk about sliding doors - they were extremely unlucky to lose last night I thought, very fine margins. Could so easily have gone the other way and I suspect the other manager would have been chopped...
