After visiting the not so delightful "SWANSEA" wondered about other hotels, pubs, towns that were just downright derelict and awful to visit... Don't get to too many away games these days, but crikey Swansea town and pubs had about as much appeal as climbing Kilimanjaro stark b*ll**k naked...
A place to visit for culture, class and style, it truly was not !!!
Appreciate the weather being dark, dank, windy, wet and not so mild didn't exactly add to the mix well, but crikey was pleased it is not my own personal abode...Working for the Swansea tourist board could well be a challenge, no doubt !!!
Any other delights and stories anyone has to offer of altermative similar waste zones, people have had the misfortune to frequent for an away day special ??

Another one for me.
The town that fun forgot - High Wycombe.
Had to be high to get any appreciation in this God Forsaken Land.. Even appreciating its Sir Gareths home from home...
And Norwich because of traffic jams galore due to the farm land otherwise known as Thetford !!!!

I had the "pleasure" of going to Loakes Park a few times. At least it was in the town centre so that you could get out quickly!
When having a Rangers away day, Cardiff & Millwall consectutive games in 1973 were rather troublesome, but seeing us concede 5 goals at Southend might have been the worst.

Regarda Bristol the town itself now is decent. went there for a stag do weekend. Was lively and been to a couple of our many away day wins at Bristol City, so for me now is not an avoid at all costs place today..

Danny Kelly once noted that the most depressing walk in English football was from Seven Sisters Tube to Spurs - and he's a Spurs fan!
While another said in relation to their new stadium, "It's like a huge great spaceship has landed in the middle of a warzone!"
Anyhow, I reckon Spurs fans may not be familiar with the lower leagues, so in the spirit of the worst places generally - i.e. not just the stadiumitself - I give you Swindon. For the walk from Swindon Train/Bus Stations to the County Ground makes Tottenham N17 look like Beverley Hills! And that's before you consider the local inhabitants...
(Incidentally, googling indicates that the name "Swindon" likely derives from the Old English words "swīn" (swine/pig) and "dūn" (hill), meaning "pig hill", but I can't imagine any self-respecting pig would ever live there had they a choice) | | | |

Baseball Ground wasn't in the most salubrious part of town. Lots of terraced housing, with a huge, poor S Asian population. 3 of the stands were wooden. Not a great idea when you're stewarding a load of OAPs and you get a strong whiff of smoke. Fortunately, it came from a fire on nearby allotment, rather than another Bradford fire.
In its defence, you could get entertainment in nearby Cambridge Street, albeit of the red light variety. |  |

When we were in the 3rd tier, trips to the old Chesterfield & Colchester grounds were pretty grim. If I recall at Chesterfield the toilets did not have a roof and to enter the loos you had to step over a gully that carried the piss out.
In both the visits to these places the locals were not that pleased to see us either. |
Yeah Chesterfield is the one I always think of when these threads come round. There was a particular game there I always think of. It was pissing down, and I'd for some reason - and somehow - dragged a couple of non-QPR friends to Chesterfield to watch us get beaten in the rain. I've definitely posted this on here at least twice before, but at half time they brought a troupe of young cheer leaders out to entertain the wet angry away end, which went as well as can be expected. If you think Rotherham is bad the bit of Sheffield they played in during the Don Valley athletics stadium days was worse.
Chatted to a bloke at a game this season who says he stays in a hotel near Ewood Park for Blackburn with a brilliant bar his group just don’t leave all night so there’s one somewhere.

I remember going to buy a round for three people at a pub there which wasn't a spoons there armed with two ten pound notes. He just gave me one back and a bit of change. This was only about 7 years ago, couldn't believe how cheap it was.
Oh yeah and I was sat in the home end (Don't ask) and had to endure them getting a 92nd minute goal to make it 1-0. [Post edited 29 Oct 20:26]

I took my daughter to chesterfield for the game just before Christmas in 2001?There were reports of our fans being attacked on the way back to the station,which was a bit of a worry,but I can’t remember if it snowed that year or the following one,which wasn’t great on an open terrace. |  | | |

When we played Sunderland and had a special train from Kings Cross to I think it was Seaburn. A police escort for fewer than 200 Rs supporters so slow we missed the kick off. Then at the end the prats decided to do an interview with one of their players in front of us. No chance the noise from us was just too much for them, so the police moved in to escort us back to the station. Now at a far increased speed which we all decided was too fast.

Yes, Bristol Rovers was the first place that sprang to mind for me. I saw us play there in 1979. Vince Taylor has some pictures from 1980 on Twitter. Like something from another age, even in those days. (Click to enlarge the photos).

Me and my brother were over in Amsterdam for Euro 2000 and ended up getting battered with a couple of Bristol City fans in a coffee shop and got on well.
After a while as the herb and beer kicked in to our young brains they started to hint that they were the ones that burned down Bristol Rovers’ old ground.

It was okayish, the year I'm talking about we were stuck In the side stand not behind the goal, the toilets were Insanely difficult to get into due to there being a single line In and out. | |
