Cricket 2025 County/International Thread by Superhoops28089 Apr 2024 13:39 With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket.
As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled.
But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap).
Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe)
I've started a new thread for the 2026 season, and I've started it now because the T20 World Cup starts a week today. (And in fact 2 months and we will be chatting county cricket red ball)
In a group with Italy, Nepal and Scotland and a pretty solid squad I expect that we will progress beyond the group stage. After that who knows and will depend on fitness. Curran and Salt played very well in the first game warm up game v Sri Lanka but tougher tests are ahead. Anyway, here is the squad for England (albeit still provisional).
Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood.
Be relying on Archer to stay fit (as per usual) - But hope that Brook finally stands up as captain, and Banton and Jacks perfom like we know they can at county level. If all that clicks should be a good watch.

I just had my photo taken with Ashley Giles at the tea interval,and he is definitely a QPR fan but doesn’t get down very often.I got his book signed too so that’s Father’s Day taken care of. Bloody hot here in the sun.

Great fifty by Fisher, but advantage New Zealand.
Apparently Stokes will be back at Trent Bridge but not confirmed yet if as captain.
Hope he does, much as I love Joe Root he should just stick to being a legendary batsman.
Even without Stokes as captain, is he not coming to the last days of his test match career. He has damaged his body due to pushing himself to immense limits and also is 35 years old now. Old for an all rounder, most definitely and fear he is not consistent enough to just feature as a batsmen for very long at all.
Rarely scores big in recent times and even he puts himself on as fifth or sixth bowler and his number of overs bowled in an innings is now massively lower than when he was the workhorse of the team.
Such a dynamic risk taker with his bazball captaincy, but that too seems to be nearing its end days as a philosophy.
Very poor day in the field by England again.If it wasn’t the extras and the dropped catches in the 1st innings that has cost,we repeated it in the 2nd so far.

Very hot at times.Our row was virtually full until about 5.30 and that made it even more uncomfortable being squashed together. I met another QPR fan in block 22 who was from the midlands,but I didn’t get much chance of a chat.

England classic collapso yesterday morning. Clearly they had a tee time they needed to get to.
Absolute shambles off the pitch too. In fact other than Stokes, I think they should all go including the two Richards at the top (Dicks?)

One or two questionable LBW decisions and a scooter didn’t help Middlesex’s cause, still as a proud Kentish Man, (as opposed to a Man of Kent) I’m not complainng.

I almost reached a state of hypoxia laughing at the Tuffers runout/ Allan Mullally shot and Sir Bob's and Beefy's comments in the aftermatch presentation and analysis.
Poor Naz nearly collapses in despair , laughing at the nadir of English test cricket that summed up the 90's. Great viewing and wondrous chemistry between the three of them.
