Kone is the number nine we have been searching in vain for years.
And with Kolli's excellent progress and Burrell's instant success, suddenly we have three decent forwards, when even one has been so elusive.
But Kone is the workhorse, the finisher, the hold up man, the muscle bound presence, the link up man and whispering this one quietly, consistently available and seemingly on duracell. Three game weeks are simple for this man.
Yes this season there are many that have been decent, however for me Kone is edging player of the season over Madsen now simply because he always puts a shift and is almost an ever present.

He's not perfect, but I was thinking during the game that he's improving and looking fitter. Whatever his small faults, opposing CBs dont seem to like playing against him for the most. I usually watch games with opponents comms and they all rate him highly. Most complaining why their team hadn't bought him. Excited to see him next season. |  |

Yep. Several times he either failed to control the ball or was just muscled out of possession. No good sitting on the floor waving your arms at the referee either.
However, he has improved massively since the start of the season. He attracts defenders, sometimes having 2 or 3 on him and that is creating a lot of space for Kolli and others. | |

I’ve been a critic of him but have to say I thought he led the line really well and you could see him and Kolli have put some work in on the training pitch. Very good understanding between them.
I’d agree his first touch is still a way from being top level but he’s m not sure he’s ever going to be a player who beats three men etc. The other frustrating thing on him is the lack of pace but again I suppose you have to accept it as he’s not that sort of player. He broke away on his own from halfway line and the Watford defender caught up with ease, by that time Kolli had gone off and Bennie as usual was nowhere in support.

As many point out Kone has his areas he needs to improve on (first touch control, control running with the ball, additional pace would be good areas).
That said his work rate is first class, no wonder he looks shattered, and he plays game after game that way. He has some great flick-ons which the likes of Burrell, Kolli and Smyth/Vale make good use of. He’s a handful for defenders and I’m sure they don’t look forward to playing him - he does enjoy baiting them with his occasional combative approach to get under their skin too - just what we want to see.
And how often do we see him back in defence helping out. Not just being a body on the box but getting tackles in (not always polished I’ll agree) and headers away.

It's good to read your and others' positive take on Kone. I can get a bit frustrated with Kone at times, and I should be more appreciative of the things you've pointed out. That said, I've always believed that he will improve in all areas of his game. He is still only 22. |  | | |

I write this as man who has a body fat and BMI percentage both over 30 but am I the only one who thinks if Kone got a little more trim, he’d have a bit more pace.
Have to say, I really like him and even when he doesn’t score boy does he contribute. Properly grafts for the team.

I think he had 2 hamstring or cramp issues yesterday. Sits down, bit of treatment….up he gets and continues making things happen for us. Goes down again, smacks the floor….manager telling him to come off….bit of treatment…..I’m not coming off Julien or words to that effect. Back on he goes…no one dragging this guy off. Couple of years ago we had many seasons of players not giving their all. This guy, a leader like Dunne….and Edwards….even Mbengue. Build a side full of these guys and we can do something next year. | | | |

Yeah he did well and worked so hard. I agree he looks lighter and sharper to me. I think they're working out his conditioning.
Felt for him as he yet again carried the ball and worked space on the left of the box, looking for an option in middle, only to see Kolli ambling into the area, instead of busting a gut to get to the near post as he should have been.
Big fan of Kolli but that was sloppy and I saw Kone got absolutely furious about it, with good reason. |  |

Bennie and Obikwu are two for a start that could cover a 3 man attack but, when you have Poku, Chair, Smyth, Vale, Dembele, and a few youngsters knocking, it would be difficult.
Looking at those names, if we don’t sell this summer, this could be the quietest window on record. | | | |
