Sorry Brian I should have clarified - the commentary team were implying pre-match that it was just a case of turning up. I’m sure the supporters were very magnanimous - lovely people. The commentators were also very disingenuous to Westmeath too, saying they would be a ‘handy’ game for any of the ‘big’ county’s. For this reason I am delighted Donegal lost.

Some battles there for sure but move over Gaelic Football fans you had your fun its time for a hurling weekend.
Clare V Dublin could be a cracker both teams were horrible last time out now its knockout do or die.
Offaly are about to get a savage ass kicking from Cork they are so frustrated/angry about the Munster Final and the pathetic ref handing the cup to Limerick as usual its just not good enough.

The Donegal crowd we met beforehand were nervous, and I thought their team played nervously once we got at them.
They were incredibly gracious afterwards. Handshakes, congrats, and very genuine chats.

I was seriously impressed with Meath last night, though I only watched it on the telly.
Cork and Meath have had some serious battles over the last few years, and only ever a kick of the ball between us. But..there was a lovely madness to how ye beat Derry last night, I thought anyway. Ye're obviously excellent on kick-outs and base yeer game around that, but last night the support play was wild. It was a big change. Maybe even a conscious decision. We go when we go. And my God ye went in numbers.
Nearly every score was facing the posts, rather than recycled second or third phase.
Hugely entertaining, and effective, I thought. |

The transformation in Meath football has been amazing. Just two seasons ago, watching the turgid effort they served up against Monaghan in the last group game was just cringe.
Sometimes, you’re just in the right place at the right time. The rule changes, and the arrival of Robbie Brennan have been a godsend. Still probably two years from potentially putting it up to the top teams on a regular basis though. |  | | |

I think Limerick are miles better than everyone else.
They mauled Cork in the Munster Final in everything but finishing, and I can't see them being so generous again. I think it's been a very poor championship, and can't see it improving. Galway look like they might be coming, though, and they're badly needed.
Thankfully, the football has been great. Still think that Donegal will win it, though I've a sneaking fancy for Tyrone. | |

Need an outside unbiased opinion Myke what did you think of the ref in that brutal Clare V Dublin match.
2 Clare hurlers sent to hospital with head injuries one savage dangerous tackle( he is better today TG) and another with badly injured ankle done for the year I suspect .
He lost control early with very poor calls IMO and allowed Dublin to lash away which they did .
Need 2 refs for hurling and qualified umpires and linesmen all with radio coms its just too quick for one these days | | | |

Agree they looked wrecked today Brian. Very lucky to get to extra time and couldn't understand why they elected to play the first half of that against the wind, after appearing to win the toss. Try to get the lead and hold it rather than chase the game when tired.
Overall not good enough though and deserved to go out. Appeared to peak by winning the League and ran out of steam in the Championship. Well done Dublin. | | | |

Donegal were goosed at the end of last week's game as well, looking back.
It was a hot day, true, but it was still surprising to see a Div 1 team with such a fine manager and playing at home as tired as their Div 2 visitors.
Edit - can't help thinking that next week might bring more shocks as fatigue and freshness become big factors. [Post edited 21 Jun 20:38]

Nobody in Dublin gave the team any chance of beating Donegal before today's fixture. The recent performances have been so poor that one journalist wrote that you'd get a bigger crowd at the 8.00am mass in the pro-cathedral than at a Dublin match these days. But the team turned up today.
While the Dublin defence and midfield were solid, their front line were misfiring. Unless the coaching team sort that out, nobody is going to be worried if they get drawn against Dublin tomorrow morning.

I missed Kerry's game yesterday but - while I've never really been blown away by Geezer's Armagh - that's a very big score by Kerry.
Kerry are in a very good position. They may not be hit by fatigue next week, as they've had a gimme game v Kildare and a home game. Plus, they can only draw Galway or Louth tomorrow. So, they should - should - progress to the semis - (edit - they can get Tyrone, I think?)
I think Tyrone could take them down. Not so sure that anyone else would. While I don't think Kerry a great team, by any means, O'Shea and Whyte at full fitness would make them very hard for anyone else to beat. [Post edited 21 Jun 22:20]
