Maybe the Birmingham home game where we were 4-0 down and lost 4-3? I ended up doing separate ratings for first half and second half. | | | |

When we last won at the Den in 2022, Danny Baker took to the airwaves to describe Millwall's derby performance wholly unacceptable. Many of their fans let their owners and players know that such a gutless display was sacrilege. Since then we have lost on each visit to the Den and, in fact, we have only won once in the seven subsequent meetings.
In contrast we seem to meekly accept yet another insipid lacklustre display in a derby match. Nobody burning effigys of the players outside the training ground, no clear the air talks with the club, nobody taking to the airwaves to publicly lambast our attitude to such games. The meek little mice on the pitch continue to roll over and be bullied. One poor derby display and Millwall fans vent their fury while we continue to produce derby slops every season as if it's the right approach.
It is noted that some feel we have improved this season but it is only by 2 points at present so we are not even one win better yet for the two seasons on 56 points. The improvement has been avoiding the bottom 3 and not being in the relegation scrap. Points wise we are about the same as two points is nothing in moving forwards. What definitively has not improved is performances and results in London derbies or being able to beat Boro, Norwich and Sheffield Utd. |  | | |

To be honest I have been impressed with Millwall's progression over the last few seasons, and they deserve to have a shot at the Prem. We really did look all over the place in the first half, but as pointed out unless you really go at a team like Millwall in the first 20 mins or so, you are likely to come off worse. |  | | |

You have absolutely nailed the priorities for the summer Clive - the recruitment has to start with a new keeper who can install confidence in an inexperienced defence. I feel so sorry for Joe Walsh, he has looked like he would rather be somewhere, anywhere else from the opening day of the season, and his decision making ability has crumbled as any limited confidence he had has drained away. The best keepers we have had were in not doubt of their right to wear the shirt, and even average keepers can succeed for a while when they have the arrogance to convince those around them that they are the dogs whatsits - Les Sealey RIP got a cup winners medal on this basis, John Burridge had a ricket in him but would stand in front of a bus, 90 year old Shilton got picked for England when his knees had locked up. Even with a strained budget before sales, they should use the weekly wage released from the departure of Cook to bring in an experienced keeper who was the belief and personality to calm an erratic defence as a priority. |  | | |

Such a grim , depressing first half . One of those days when you just know we’re getting nothing out of the game . Too many poor performances to mention .
Looked miles better when Madsen and Chair arrived but ultimately never looked liked scoring.
Millwall quite happy to let us have the ball and we know that never ends well .

I wanted us to make 6 subs, so we needed someone to go off with a "head injury". Preferably Varane so that he couldn't play in the next two games! At least we brought on 5 of the 6 that I wanted.
It is very rare that my player ratings are lower than Clive's (possibly this is the first time), but I gave 4 players a 3 or less, with my first ever 1. On reflection, I don't think I was being too harsh! | | | |

Yeah, I think Millwall went into containment mode on about 30min tbh. On the 20th min, when they were 2-0 up, I think the stats were that we had something like 15-20% possession. yet we finished the game with over 50%, so it shows just how far off the gas they were able to come. Given our ability to throw away games early, how many of our losses with superior possession have come after the other team have declared and left us to try and score a goal, knowing we lack the creativity?
The goals conceded were quite telling as well, our strikers never get given that amount of time and space to get a shot away. Shows how poor we are defensively and put Walsh in a difficult position, but I still think a top keeper saves one of the two goals. If it were Dieng or Smithies in their prime, we're probably only 1-0 down at half time and the defence is getting a talking too about upping their game from the 3rd min on.
But I think that's part of the problem, the balance between youth and experience within the squad is all wrong. JCS&RND both older but probably played less senior professional football than Edwards. CM Varane is the oldest at 24 and not shown any sort of consistency in his own performances that suggest he should be the "experience pro" in the centre of the park. Didn't seem to help Morgan to be left without that experience alongside him. |  | | |

I will criticise for the punch which Crama returned to the top of the net. His speed off the line to mean Norre shot wide was impressive. He also made a couple of saves from Coburn. The tip over in 1st half was comfortable but the block with his legs from 4 yards out was sensational. |  |

Don't get me wrong the goals are not his fault but neither shot is so far in the corner of the goal that it's troubling the post. I think Smithies or Dieng pulls off a save for one of the two shots, after all they were highly regarded here because we'd have games where they seemed to single handedly keep us in it but Walsh isn't at that level. I use those two keepers as examples because that's the level we should be aiming for in goal and they demonstrate that we've been able to get that quality of keeper at this level before. | | | |
