Edit, he said the Vanguard was the first British car to have a radio as standard equipment. Dunno if true…..surely a Bentley or a Roller ? [Post edited 19 Apr 21:30]

| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 21:24 - Apr 19 with 2326 views | MrSheen | I mentioned on my thread about my Dad's conviction that he could fix any old banger, or if he couldn't, then the next one in line. We had a series of Ford Anglias (top speed about 45 miles an hour) as well as Vauxhall Victors and Vivas, an Austin 1800 that a wheel fell off and, worst of all, an Austin Princess that caught fire driving at night on an Irish mountain road. The most arduous journey of all was when we took a van load of second hand furniture to an uncle in Ireland in a completely decrepit Bedford van. It took about ten hours driving overnight to Fishguard on the old A40, stopping every few hours to brew up some tea on a camping stove by the side of the road. I had a cassette player with me for the journey - I couldn't hear it, but I could work out which song it was by putting my hand on the speaker. | | | |

Traded it in for a Ford Taunus estate car which was both better and rather unusual in the UK
| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 21:54 - Apr 19 with 2226 views | enfieldargh | My dad had a silver zephyr 6 had a front bench seat no seatbelts from memory . I would sit between my mum and dad in the front when he turned sharpe left I’d fall all over him and the steering wheel. Also the back of his drivers seat had a broken spring protruding through the vinyl which cut everybody’s knees. | |

I've found some much maligned cars very enjoyable. One such was an Austin Princess 2.2 HLS (high luxury special). Bit of an overstatement but the interior was like a gentlemens club. The 6 cylinder transverse OHC engine was so quiet and smooth you wouldn't know it was running. The suspension was glorious except….you had to get the gas suspension units pumped up every few months and take it easy on corners. Sold it to a bloke in Manchester and he's still running it.

| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 22:59 - Apr 19 with 2088 views | ted_hendrix | My Dad had hundreds of cars over the Years, I used to go with him by bus In the Sixties to the car auctions In the evenings, and I loved It, he'd quietly point out known criminals to me and every bad up to no good bastard at the auction (local and form afar). I learnt so much at a young age, everyone was up to no good (Including me Dad). Lots of hoodlums In zoot suits at the auctions. He used to do the cars up and sell them on Via the Exchange and Mart. Many a night we'd be driving home in some old Austin or some such and It would conk out and I had to get out of the car with him with the snow or rain pissing down and I'd have to turn the engine slowly with a starting handle while he was trying to reset the points, no heating In them cars, I also had to make sure the Inside of the windscreen was kept mist free with an old rag while he was driving. Always got home late, cup of cocoa and straight to bed with school the next day. My youngest Lad has carried on the car auction tradition of our Family, he has a very successful used car sales business, In fact I'm going to the auctions tomorrow to pick up a car for him, and I get paid (LOL) | |

The sinclair C5 or Smart car of its day but it was only loosely called a car. More like a glorified go cart !!! He had a cortina, a granada and a volvo, but for some reason, the car i did not like, was an Austin Princess. [Post edited 19 Apr 23:24]

| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 23:26 - Apr 19 with 2003 views | PlanetHonneywood | My dad had an Austin A40, which seemed to have a mind of its own when it came to actually starting. Sonetimes it simply refused to start. So he'd have to get out of the car, usually in a fit of cursing, get the crank handle out and turn the fcuker. If it didnt burst into life with the first turn, subsequent turns became increasingly more aggressive. We were once driving on a bumpy road, and the key fell out of the ignition. As we were going at a fair gallop, my dad left it on the floor for the remainder of the journey. | |

My dad's first car was a Reliant Regal three wheeler. He blocked off the reverse gear and drove it on his motorbike license.

Great Soviet Limousine look, any African generalissimo would be delighted with that. Henry Cooper’s son was a couple of years ahead of me at school. Our Enery would sometimes drop him off in a Ford Capri with Brut 33 branding all over the bonnet, roof and doors like a rally car. He was universally mocked for it (but in our hearts, we were all envious).
| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 10:46 - Apr 20 with 1609 views | enfieldargh | My dad went through several cars after the aforesaid Zephyr 6 (had a 4 before) I remember a Rover 2000, Ford Consul, the Zephyrs but my favourite was a Citroen DS23 in Lime green with green fabric seats. It was like floating on a cloud. It had these two rubber fenders at the front that stuck out about 6 inches. We parked up at Wembley Stadium car park for the England V West Germany game in 1972 which was lost 3-1. We had to sit in the car park after the game loads of people smashed their shins on those prongs Im amazed we didnt get into a punch up. No idea why we drove there we only lived a mile and half from the stadium! My mum had a Brown Austin A30 which had a knob on the dash board which flicked out the arrows from the sides of the car which were the indicators. I did get us into trouble turning it all the time and her screaming at me....what fun | |

| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 11:10 - Apr 20 with 1558 views | Phildo | we had a white Austin 1100 (you could watch the sub frame rust in real time) - I can still remember the smell of the upholstery- followed by a red Avenger then a mustard Marina 1.3 overhead cam which had totally inadequate brakes- particularly as he liked to drive to the Queen of England and have four pints every evening. Old Marinas are starting to go up in value a bit now presumably as there are so few left. | | | |
| Worst Motor Your Dad Had. on 12:01 - Apr 20 with 1476 views | loftboy | The first car he had when I was small was an Austin A35, he followed that up with a huge Ford Zephyr, as the youngest child of 4 I got to sit in the middle of the bench seat at the front, no seatbelts or special seat for me. | |
