Penalty 23:17 - Apr 21 with 9062 viewsPaddyhoops

Wouldn’t have made any difference but that penalty decision was shocking . From loft standing we could see it was the wrong decision. Abysmal refereeing from another ref who doesn’t cut it this level . Not sure what his linos were doing .
Swansea deserved their win but when their manager says it wasn’t a penalty it kinda of says it all .

Missed an obvious Kone handball. Also inexplicably gave us a free kick when he seemed to have played advantage and we were away on the attack. He was really poor. Not that we can blame him for the result. Really should have been a more comfortable victory for Swansea. They were miles better than us.

Couldnt believe he gave it and couldnt believe our players didnt really protest it. Terrible decision.

Up there with the Lampard no goal v Germany in the world cup. One of the worst decisions I've ever seen, not even close.

Well it would have made a difference on the result. Agree we were second best for most of the game.

Smells like a trout farm in here

While there's one goal in it there's always a chance and that decision killed the game. Disgracefully poor refereeing, reminds me of almost every Liverpool home game in the 80s.

Funnily enough, my first thought, was the 'goal' Blackburn 'scored' in the early 80s in front of the SE. The ball had clearly gone out, but hit some part of the back of the netting, bounced back to a Blackburn player who nodded it in.

The ref ignored key indicators like: the QPR players had stopoed playing; we fans weren't moaning; and crucially, the Blackburn players and fans, weren't even celebrating!

Venables went mad came down to the pitch to remonstrate and still the ref ignored the fact that the Blackburn team were saying nothing and were openly laughing.

Last night's decision was not as shocking, but certainlyas poor!

I remembered Danny Maddix conceding a late penalty at Anfield, they won the game and the league with it.
Only thing is, the tackle was well outside the box, Danny ripped up the turf in the challenge, he left a fecking marker for the ref.
After the game our manager - Don Howe? - came over to applaud us, and pointed to the missing clump of turf.
As you say, pretty standard back then, up there.

It was on steve Nicol, dived through the air like Tom Daley to make sure he landed in the box.

In these situations where the mistake from the ref was so obvious, what actually happens? Does he get his wages docked? Does he have to write an apology to the club? I know refs have a hard job anyway, but surely he should hold his hands up on this one.

Looked outside of the box to me having seen it on SKY (Thought it was a 'bang on' penalty at the game last night).......BUT don't complain, most of you posters do not want VAR. I do 100%.

It was obvious from fairly early on that the ref was going to be useless. Giving yellow cards to our fouls while ignoring worse from them was particularly frustrating. The penalty, the loss of advantage and other stupid errors just made it clear he should have been reffing kids on a Saturday morning and not in the professional game.

I was genuinely pleased about it.

Once in a Blue Moon you're always going to get historically awful decisions like this - they come around. The knack is to have them in games which are utterly irrelevant and that was the case for us.

Imagine if that had been a play-off semi-final next season? Or a relegation six pointer (perish such a thought)?

No harm done, and the incident (imho) in no way affected the outcome - we'd have lost anyway and deserved to.

I'd say the decision, in reality, was the very least of our worries last night.

Same as at Millwall.....two children, which is what many posters, playing in demanding midfield places defended so badly for Millwall's first goal. Midfielders must be able to defend as well as attack - tough position to play.

Not that it happened, not pleased at all. But pleased about the context - it happened (as these things always do) in an end-of-season dead rubber not a crunch game.

Strange post indeed!!!!! Context!!!!! Oh it happened!!! alway do!!! end of season rubber!!!

It is not acceptable in any way, shape or form......I blame the people that selected the team basically, giving the Chldren, whether they are good enough or not, in a Championship fixture that supporters have paid 'good money' in difficult times to watch children play!!!

Think the ref decided to give them a penalty purely because we were so shit and an embarrassment to the paying supporters.

If that was the case, the ref has my full backing.

That performance was a bit of an insult to the 8 or so thousand who showed up last night .
I was genuinely angry at that showing last night .
Got home at 11.0 clock and an early start today . .
Dead rubber it might have been but FFS put some effort into it.

we were poor but that was NOT a penalty, we was robbed and that ref should be reported and banned from reffing any EFL this season . imagine the uproar if that was at anfield, citeh or mold trafford??

The linesman was on that side of the pitch too, did he not see it and think it was worth advising the ref maybe he'd got it wrong?

Of course the players barely complained about it either.

Would love to know what mark the assessor gives for that performance last night.
