Ok, Walsh probably isn’t good enough long term and the stats on all the goalkeepers in the Championship this season tell their own story. He is rock bottom .
So let’s not be under any illusion that at the moment he isn’t good enough.
However he’s also a very easy target at times.
As a team , and I mean as well as the defence , we are often shambolic .
So much wrong with the team in front of our back 4 that at times I think we have 10 men or less. (Until we actually do get someone sent off and then it gets really bad).
The formation is all wrong , the midfield 2 play miles apart mainly because opposition players drag them out of position. Vale has a lot to learn defensively (see goals 2&3 last Saturday).
Our back 4 are not protected by Morgan (too lightweight, lost a 60/40 challenge in his favour in the build up to their first goal today ) and as for Varane …sorry I just don’t get it . How many times today did he lose the ball leaving our back 4 exposed ? Numerous .
He isn’t good enough and those 2 , as a pair don’t work .
The defence doesn’t need help in being rubbish and neither does Walsh , but that centre midfield position is now critical this summer and must be dealt with . [Post edited 2 May 20:19]

He’s just not a very good goalkeeper. At all.
I mean him no malice, I don’t enjoy it being the truth - but he isn’t good and he doesn’t possess the natural skills to become good. He’s not really good at anything.
He reminds me heavily of Matt Ingram. Also a bad keeper.
So yeah, nice lad, but has to be let go and replaced. |  |

I agree Edwards stuffed up and when things are going well he looks great.
However this is rare as we've not gone well since he joined us in January and have only won 5 games in that time.
Walsh should also have done better with the shot. He was weak. If he was a decent keeper that would not be a goal.
Both are to blame on this one. |

I've not watched these goals again but my initial impression for the 1st goal was where the hell was Mad Ben, he seemed well out of position, especially when we wanted to start strong and safe. Then why didn't Walsh tell JCS to get out the way, maybe he did but JCS stayed in the way and knocked it towards goal, RND likewise. 2nd goal was good from Philogrene, though Ben could have done better. 3rd goal Edwards should have got that out of danger, Walsh should have held that ball though it would have been painfull. | | | |

Spot on Mart and what worries me, as we all bang on about a lack of leaders, is that our plethora of blowing hot and cold players - who may do OK on a nice sunny Saturday at home (or may not) have completely failed to turn up at the gritty fixtures when you need to all become Steve Cook / Jimmy Dunne and show some cojones. The first ten minutes of Millwall away and yesterday is all you need to know for the mettle of these guys under fire - and, soberingly, they were even dead rubbers for us! I'm looking at you in particular, Harvey Vale, Clarke-Salter, Mbengue, Walsh. There's plenty of those fixtures in the Championship and we will never progress if we keep capitulating every time we face them.
JCS worries me with Cook gone. Never mind his appalling fitness record, he does look all lovely and composed when it suits him but he really has gone missing when under the cosh. If him and Mbengue, who certainly doesn't go missing in the physical sense but his brain does, are regulars in our back 4 next season we are in for yet another tough one.
On a brighter note, full marks to Ronnie for his Clive Allen At West Ham tribute act before the third goal. Superb stuff. |  | | |

He got a lot of cr*p all season for his bad keeping (a lot of it was true, btw), and the Ipswich game merely capped it off when he failed to get hold of the ball after Edwards screwed up. | | | |

The initial save was very brave. Should he have kept control of the ball under severe pressure. Possibly.

I don't think he was at fault for any of the goals today, and he made two very fine saves. |
Nearly agree with you Brian, he was at fault for the third in my opinion, he has to keep hold of the ball, bread and butter for a goalkeeper. But apart from that he had a good game. Hopefully Edwards learns from his mistake as well, he had the opportunity to put the ball out to his left before he was surrounded by Ipswich players.
Short term I have no problem with Walsh continuing as our Number 1 as what money we have currently needs to be spent on full backs and some granite in midfield.
Long term we should be upgrading our keeper though. As daveb pointed out last week Walsh isn't vocal enough, no bollocking of his defence or berating of the midfield for not tracking back. Of course he isn't the only player guilty of this, without Cook and Dunne you could hear a pin drop at times amongst our back five. |  | | |

Not a fan of Walsh. He looked iffy in preseason and, in my opinion, never really kicked on. Replacing him after Coventry was a mercy but the recruitment of Hamer showed that the management didn't really rate any of the availability options. I think he's run out of road at QPR: if we can get a loan or a buyer for him next season, we should take it and replace him. |  |

He was in goal for the next game at home to Charlton and did ok but think he picked up an injury IIRC.
If it were up to me I'd let Nardi and Hamer go, bring in an established goalkeeper aged 25-30 who's played a couple of full seasons and let them fight it out for the starting spot. |  | | |

Walsh is clearly not good enough right now. I really don't know how they thought he would be. Did years of warming up with Asmir Begovic and Paul Nardi, all whilst Murphy Cooper racked up 80 EFL appearances, unlock his potential all of a sudden? Hubris is what it is.
They messed up the keeper position big time. However we haven't gone down and we are wiser than when we started. As long as we draw the right conclusion now - that Walsh needs a L1 loan, otherwise he has to be our number 2 - it's not an entirely wasted year.
Ideally i'd like us to find an experienced (but not retired, Ben) keeper who could compete with Cooper while Walsh gets a season-long loan to anyone but Barnsley. |  | | |

He was at fault for 2 of the goals yesterday.
First goal he just watches it go past him to then be tucked into the net and the third goal he should have claimed totally as his.
He did make two other very good important saves and also claimed the ball from corsses a lot more. So, its not all bad. He is getting better but hes not Champ standard and needs a L1 loan.
Many clubs would love to loan him as we have seen with Cooper who was loaned to Sheff Wed.
They know its a problem as Salmon was on the bench and not Hammer, which means Hammer's and Nardi's money will be used to get a new keeper in. |  |

Opposition teams know he's a weak link. The amount of shots the players take. Teams also know to go at us full on in the first 5 minutes as we always look like a rabbit in the headlights.
I dont see Walsh having a go at his defence either. |  |

Walsh certainly wouldn’t make the top ten of keepers ever at QPR but also it should be taken into consideration some of the appalling goals we have conceded through defensive mistakes, and from defenders that you would expect to be better, such as the first goal against Swansea where Cook and RND decided to clatter into each other. I’ve not known a season where the defence has been so poor at times. But for me I think Walsh has a problem with communicating with the defence and certainly he doesn’t want to dish out bollockingş when defenders derserve it. He is far too quiet for a keeper. I’d like to see him succeed and certainly time is on his side to develop into a decent keeper. But for me apart from learning to be a gobby barştard he also needs to put on a bit of muscle, work on his footwork and also learn to command his area. Watching a few clips of Phil Parkes coming out to collect crosses with his knee leading the way wouldn’t go amiss. Also it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the club to look to see if Dieng is available. Best keeper we’ve had in the last ten years other than Smithies. | |
