| Walsh 14:23 - May 2 with 9528 views | hoops_legend | Thanks Joe Walsh for your time here but time to move onto league one or two. We can't compete while we have him in goal He isn't terrible but he's clearly not at the right level | |

| Walsh on 14:39 - May 2 with 7148 views | superhoopaus | Great goalkeepers even good goalkeepers can win you games and points - we've had plenty of those with Parkes, Seaman, Stejskal, Kenny (promotion season), Peter Hucker and even Rob Green. Joe Walsh and the other keepers have all cost us points this year and need to be replaced. They are not good enough. | | | |
| Walsh on 15:15 - May 2 with 7012 views | MedwayR | I feel like we could say this about most of our players, not sure why some feel the need to dig out Walsh in particular. Maybe start a similar thread on our big money (for us) CB trying to be clever on the edge of our own box ffs. Edit: The ffs is directed at Edwards by the way. [Post edited 2 May 15:16]

I agree Edwards stuffed up and when things are going well he looks great. However this is rare as we've not gone well since he joined us in January and have only won 5 games in that time. Walsh should also have done better with the shot. He was weak. If he was a decent keeper that would not be a goal. Both are to blame on this one.
| Walsh on 15:25 - May 2 with 6930 views | dmm | Walsh was very suspect for the first goal too. I feel for him as a young keeper but things can't carry on as they are. He must have nightmares about playing for QPR and he will surely want a new start somewhere else. And QPR need a complete revamp in the keeper department. | | | |
| Walsh on 15:41 - May 2 with 6863 views | BrianMcCarthy | I don't think he was at fault for any of the goals today, and he made two very fine saves. | |

Agreed - I thought he had a good game. He was the least of our problems today.

| Walsh on 16:09 - May 2 with 6706 views | CamberleyR | He might not be totally terrible but IMO he isn't at the standard required for any aspiring Championship team. Not one of the teams who finished in the top 8 places would have him anywhere near their first teams. | |

| Walsh on 16:16 - May 2 with 6645 views | superhoopaus | Agree he's not very good is he? Look at the great keepers we have had and even the good championship keepers and he is nowhere near that level. We should have bought Viktor Johansson when Rotherham went down Top 5 (based on clean sheets, GA90, save %, and overall impact) Here's a quick ranking of the standout keepers this season (stats as of the final weeks — most played 35-46 games): Carl Rushworth (Coventry City) Most clean sheets in the league (~16-17 in ~45 appearances). ~1.00 goals conceded per game. Key to Coventry conceding just 45 goals all season and winning the title. Widely regarded as the best all-round keeper in the division. Viktor Johansson (Stoke City) Best goals-conceded rate (~0.96 GA90 in 24 appearances). Top-tier save percentage (~75%). Stood out massively when he played — one of the highest-rated shot-stoppers. Christian Walton (Ipswich Town) Excellent clean-sheet rate (~15 in 36 games — highest % among regulars). Very low goals-against tally relative to games played. Reliable and consistent for a strong Ipswich side. Sol Brynn (Middlesbrough) Played every single game (45+ appearances). ~1.00 GA90 and strong clean-sheet numbers. Ultra-consistent No.1 for Boro all season. Max Crocombe (Millwall) / Lawrence Vigouroux (Swansea City) (very close) Crocombe: Highest save percentage in the league (~75.7%). Vigouroux: Solid all-round numbers and regular clean sheets. Other notables Radek Vitek (Bristol City – on loan from Man Utd) — impressive young keeper. Daniel Iversen (Preston) and James Beadle (Birmingham) also had strong campaigns. | | | |
| Walsh on 16:19 - May 2 with 6624 views | StreathamRanger | Watched the first half and just watched the highlights. Once again the criticism of him is way OTT. I would like to see us sign a new keeper but how about our defenders also start to defend properly or our attackers stop passing the ball to the opposition. What the hell was Edwards doing for the third goal? Clear the damn ball man. Sign a new goalkeeper sure but he'll also concede loads if we let the opposition dominate possession every week and defend as a team so poorly. | | | |

Not sure I totally agree Brian, I had all three down as not entirely down to him but a better keeper finds a way of keeping all three of those out. Maybe less the second than the other two
| Walsh on 16:28 - May 2 with 6523 views | superhoopaus | Unfortunately I'd rate Joe Walsh as one of the weaker regular goalkeepers in the 2025/26 Championship – easily in the bottom 5-8 out of the ~24-28 keepers who played significant minutes. He was our most-used keeper late in the season (after we rotated between him, Paul Nardi and Ben Hamer), but his numbers don't stack up well against the top performers Quick stat comparison (full season, ~22-23 appearances) Appearances: 23 starts (1,980+ minutes) Clean sheets: 4 Goals conceded: 42 (GA90 ≈ 1.82) Saves: 64 Save %: ~62-63% (from ~100 shots on target) FotMob rating: 6.53 (below average for the position) Goals prevented: Around -6.5 to -6.7 (negative impact) QPR finished mid-table (15th, 58 points, 61 GF / 73 GA overall), and Walsh's spell in goal aligned with a leaky defence. How he compares Top keepers (Rushworth, Johansson, Walton, etc.) were posting GA90 ~1.0 or lower, 15+ clean sheets in full seasons, and save % in the mid-70s. Walsh's save percentage and GA90 are well below league average for regulars. Mid-season (Feb 2026), Football League World ranked him dead last (24th) among all 24 clubs' main goalkeepers, noting he "hasn't been too inspiring" and lacked the experience to lock down the No.1 spot long-term. He had occasional standout games (even an EFL Team of the Week nod earlier) and showed promise as a young keeper (24 years old), but overall shot-stopping and consistency weren't there this season. Bottom line: Solid backup/depth option with upside, but not in the conversation for "best in the Championship" – more like a bottom-tier starter by the numbers. If QPR can tighten up defensively next year he could improve, but right now he's well behind the elite keepers in the division. Compare him with the stoke goalkeeper Walsh (QPR) vs Viktor Johansson (Stoke City) – clear gap in 2025/26 Championship form. Johansson was one of the division’s standout keepers; Walsh was among the weaker regulars. Here’s a direct head-to-head on the key metrics (full season stats, regular starters): Quick breakdown comparing Walsh with Johansson Shot-stopping: Johansson was elite – top-tier save percentage and routinely preventing goals above expectation. Walsh sat well below league average and let in far more than expected. Clean sheets & consistency: Johansson kept twice as many shutouts in a similar number of games while conceding at roughly half the rate. Walsh’s spell in goal coincided with QPR leaking goals. Overall impact: Mid-season rankings (e.g. Football League World in Feb 2026) had Walsh dead last (24th) among the 24 clubs’ main keepers. Johansson was frequently mentioned in “best in the league” conversations for his reliability and low concession rate. Bottom line: Viktor Johansson was comfortably a top-3/5 keeper in the Championship this season – excellent numbers and a big reason Stoke stayed competitive. Joe Walsh was a bottom-tier starter: promising as a young keeper (24) with occasional good games, but the numbers show he was well off the pace set by the likes of Johansson, Rushworth, etc. [Post edited 2 May 16:35]

I thought the first one I would expect to be keepers but JCS was in the way which tells a story in itself, the 3rd a top goalkeeper holds. His distribution today was rank and put us in trouble a lot. He saved shots he should save. I was always willing to give him the season, and we have done that and I dont think he is good enough. Is he one of the the top 50 keepers playing in the English leagues, I dont see it.
| Walsh on 16:42 - May 2 with 6427 views | corse | Not the worst player on the pitch today. He does have his faults buy defo not the only one to blame for conceding 70+. Our defence is below average too and mostly nonexcist. | | | |

Yeah, agree. Shame, as up until a few weeks ago I'd have kept him as number 1 for next season. He is just to erratic and isn't exactly an oasis of calm. Keep him as back up and sell Cooper.

I think Jamie Cumming has decent stats for a keeper in a relegated team, bit like Johansson when he was at Rotherham. Would be a good option for us.

| Walsh on 17:27 - May 2 with 6157 views | Toast_R | Your defence is on an uneven footing when the goalkeeper behind them is dodgy and QPR currently have three dodgy keepers who cant be trusted. I've seen plenty down the years and Walsh is one. | | | |

Hi Gazz, He came out quick enough, body position is good, led with his hands out and to the side, landed with shoulders, hips, knees all on the ground, so bounced well, got up incredibly quickly for the second ball, and no blame that he didn't get to that, and I don't think any keeper could. The only subjective point is whether he should have held the first ball. I think we can see here that at 3:34-3:35 he gets clattered in the head/hands as he makes the first save. I actually think he was brave to shrug off the hit to get up so quickly for the second ball. So, in my humble opinion, I think he did ok there. Maybe even did well. https://www.skysports.com/foot

| Walsh on 18:13 - May 2 with 5978 views | VancouverHoop | Blaming the keeper for a team/squad deficit is too easy. We gave up two goals within the first ten minutes. That's an endemic problem not down to just one player. It's happened far too often this season. At the start of each half we're asleep as a team, nowhere near on task. Opposition teams now know it and the good ones exploit it as Ipswich did today. If the problem isn't rectified by next season things will get very ugly, very quickly. | | | |

Not only the two goals either, we let them have three other chances in those ten minutes. A lot of that was down to misplacing passes and losing tackles in midfield. We have to learn to cope better with being pressed.
