Ah, you can't beat the English sports fan disease. Somehow one of our own countrymen is touched with sporting genius - a Rooney, a Littler....and out comes all the abuse from all angles.
Littler was basically a child when he won the World Championships, and in my opinion will be the greatest darts player anyone has ever seen. If you can stick on Sky Darts on a Thursday night, the guy is brilliant entertainment.
And he's English? So....booooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....fat git......he once behaved badly playing Van der Veen (he's played thousands of matches, that is literally his one aberration at his age, not bad)...utter criminal.

Because he’s the best in the world at his sport probably.
Find some of the hate (perhaps too strong a word) towards him a bit odd amongst darts fans. He’s not the most charismatic and maybe will always be a bit dull as a bloke but he’s barely an adult. What he’s achieved for any sport is kind of mad. [Post edited 20 May 10:15]

He's inspired a generation. My darts team has 2 u20 and they are not the youngest in the league. Darts was dying a little, but its been rejuvinated round here.
Is it ALL him? Doubtful, but my lad starting throwing aroundcthectime Littler arriced at the scene.
Although he's family is a bit of a "rum bunch" and he had a run in with Van Veen, the feedback I hear from some PDC officials is that he is a joy to work with - always ready, always willing, just loves the sport.

If you talking about Prince William for several years, he flew helicopters in search a and rescue operations and obviously attends many events around the country and abroad in official and diplomatic capacities and has to make speeches in front of all and sundry and none of it was his choice. He had no choice.
He cant go out for some quiet time anywhere that often randomly, ie security always highlighted.
Littler is a young kid, coping very well at World elite level. You have to have some natural talent but to be world champion and world number one in anything, no matter what it is or isnt, is impressive. Yes he is not athletic in anyways but to be at his level, you need talent and guts and dedication and mental strength too.

Dave, I don't watch darts and don't really know the level of his achievement. I also can't take darts seriously as a sport.
However, putting my darts bias to one side, these awards are handed out far too quickly and probably to far too many these days.
Look at the England team that won the world cup. Ramsey was knighted and Moore, as the captain got an OBE. The rest weren't honoured until much later, as they neared or reached the ends of their careers.
I think Littler and others should have to wait considerably longer before being recognised in this manner. | | | |

My great aunt got an MBE apparently for services at the civil service.
She was my dads aunt but he didnt know much more about the reasons.
Never knew her that well. She passed in the early 80s but again even back then for me is a weird reason to get an MBE herself. [Post edited 22 May 17:56]
