To be honest, I got the same vibes myself.
I get that players need the time to learn their trade. It's just that I couldn't see a huge amount of improvement from Walsh across the season. Another campaign of that will finish me off. |  |

I don't feel Walsh has been anything like as poor as some posters say. He's made plenty of good saves, often by spreading himself well. I thought he was poor at Southampton but otherwise too many off the goals conceded can be attributed more to those in front of him than the keeper himself.
At 23, which is youngish for a keeper, he has plenty of potential to improve. |  |

I have seen in a couple of places statistics quoted (by Clive, I think, and elsewhere) that in terms of "Overall Goals the Keeper Cost You", Walsh is at or near the bottom of that table. I recall a figure of -7 but I may be wrong in that.
However, you're right, he has made some good saves and, given his age and inexperience, he has potential to improve and the defence may be partly culpable but, if he were nearer the middle of that table in his first season, I'd have more hope for the future.
Nevertheless, based on that half-remembered stat, I would bring in a better keeper who might give our defence more confidence. | | | |

Sorry to go Roy Keane here , but making some good saves is his job and what keepers are meant to do.
Walsh is poor, positioning suspect all the time, shots across him always go in, and he drops the ball like Tony Roberts used to. You don't improve your defence by having a dodgy keeper behind them. Definitly priority position to fill this summer or we will go precisley nowhere.
Bring back Seny if Boro do go up, I'd imagine he might be available?

It’s not really an opinion based thing. The stats are there. They exist. They are independent. They point to him being the worst or 2nd worst of all starting keepers in the league in terms of both goals conceded vs expected goals conceded, and variance of shots on target to goals conceded. The sample size is large.
Doesn’t mean he won’t develop from this season, gain from the experience and become very good.
But the stats are pretty clear: he was one of the worst keepers in the league this season.
It’s fair to question whether we should change keeper, especially if we’re a data led football club. |  | | |

I mean Seaman knows about gaining experience, so all I can say is Nicolas Madsen.
Madsen was starting to improve last five or six games of the previous season and then this season just gone you never know.
Its always difficult to tell. But yes it does seem this interview is lining up Walsh for number one, but i hope we get someone else who has the ability to be a number one in the championship, because we have to have options here, just in case obviously. |  |
