Match identification 13:52 - May 26 with 4670 viewsRangersDave3

Hi,

I’m trying to trace the date of a QPR win (don’t laugh).

It was a first day of the new season and Rangers were at home. We went 1-0 up,
Arse then scored to head to a draw. It was 30 odd years ago.

Now, the reason I need your help, is that as my age has gone on, like some others, my mind has slowly started to ‘grey out’, leaving me ‘blanks’ in my recall.

And here’s the real kicker.
Dad died,
Then 8 months ago mum died.

And I’m left with part memory of the match as it was my son’s birthday. And I don’t know the date.
Feckin grey cells.

If anyone can help me, I can make sure I can slowly fill the gaps in my memory, please?
Best
Dave

It was the first game of the 90/91 season with Gerry Francis in charge for the first time. They scored literally with the last kick of the game. Seaman’s first game for them as well.

You’re right. Can remember taking the pîss out of Seaman, waiving our arms around singing “Seaman fûcked the double”.

There were two 1-1 draws at home to Arsenal in the 93/94 season and 95/96 seasons, but 27/4/94 and 1/3/96.

But yes everyone is right the 1 - 1 draw at Highbury was first game of a new season.

Was at the game on the terraces with a mate and remember when we scored some massive neanderthal man went ballistic behind and i got slammed into one of the steel girders that made up the terrace dividers.

Literally almost succumbed that day, but i didnt care, we were humiliating Arsenal, think they were champions the season before.

Blooming Paul Merson scored in Bobby Zamora time sadly.

Thanks everyone.

This brain fog is terrible.

I guess one day I’ll start forgetting Leeds at Rangers all those years ago too.

Dennis Bailey’s debut. Did he score?

I remember thinking, what the f**k is “Brooks”.

My first game for us was also against Arsenal but it was a 1-0 defeat at Highbury in November 1984!

My first away game (at least the first one I recall) was at Highbury on 2nd October 1976. Phil Parkes got injured so Dave Webb went in goal and then punched the ball into his own net. Arsenal 3-2 QPR.

Graham was in charge, miserable bastard. Honestly people complain about Arteta, Graham was far worse. They had just won the thing the season before, losing only once and we came within minutes of beating them. Did he praise us in his post-match comment? Did he hell. Said something like ‘ I hate the opening day of the season, every club in the league thinks they can win it on the first day.’ Miserable sod.

Reading the excellent Venables book by Francis Peacock, when Graham was Millwall manager he was in contention for the QPR job when TV left - what might have been...

Ah yeah, agree he was a great manager. Just not a great man. Unnecessarily disingenuous imo

Fair enough.

He was of course QPR youth coach in the early 80s before taking the Millwall job.

Don't want to break copyright and get Clive into trouble.

Here's a link to a photo of Graham's wedding day. The best man was?

He didn't have to wait until bedtime either as he scored in the afternoon. He got the third as Arse beat Spuds 4-0

Remember doing that a couple of years later after Koeman scored that free kick against him

Must have been the nil nil draw in the 93/94 season

I remember the crowd waving their arms in the air singing "Let's all do a Seaman" when he played for Man City against us in the League Cup in 2003.

He laughed and joined in.
