Game on 11th confirmed vs First Vienna. Oldest club in Austria and plays in their 2nd division. |
First Vienna are an ok opponent, they are ambitious and aim for promotion, so should be a good test...and you know what? It is not the first time First Vienna and QPR play each other. Back in the winter 1933 the Austrian side toured England and on Jan. 30 they played QPR... and won 3-0! ( well I had no idea, read it somewhere).So the opportunity for revenge 93 years later...
Personally, I may take a break from my holidays just to see that game. It will be an eight hour trip getting to Vienna and back to the holiday destination (it is quicker flying in from London) but it would be too annoying for me to miss out. | | | |

First Viena were Austrian Champions in 1931 & 1933 as well as runners up in 1932. They also won the Austrian Cup in 1929, 30 & 37. Additionally they won the Mitropa Cup (Central European Clubs Cup) in 1931.
Austria had been the first country on the continent to introduce a professional league in 1924.
The Austrian national side known as the Wunderteam, was pretty decent in the 1930's before the Anschluss.
They finished 4th in their only World Cup in 1934. They won a Central European Championship and were runners up twice. Their Amateur side also were silver medallists at the 1936 Olympics.
They went 14 games unbeaten before losing 4-3 to England at Highbury in 1934.

Since the 30s First Vienna won three Championships in the 40s and one in the 50s.
